Fall TV ABC's "Cavemen"

On Tuesday, October 2nd at 8/7c, ABC will be premiering a new half hour comedy entitled "Cavemen". The series is based on three characters that viewers might have recognized from the successful GEICO auto insurance commercials. Let's see what viewers will have to look forward to with "Cavemen".

This half hour comedy series revolves around the lives of three cavemen who have just relocated to San Diego, California. They are looking to join the world of Homo sapiens and hopefully will be able to endure in this sort of society which is completely foreign to them. Joel and Andy are brothers while Nick is Andy's best friend. They all share an apartment together which is owned by Joel's girlfriend's mother.

Joel has a proper job and his beautiful girlfriend? Well she's not a cavewomen but a Homo sapien. Can the three cavemen dispel any myths about them? How will they deal with people that have preconceived notions about cavemen? You will just have to tune in to find out what happens.

"Cavemen" stars Bill English, Sam Huntington ("Superman Returns" and "Veronica Mars"), John Heard, Kaitlin Doubleday ("Justice"), Nick Kroll, Stephanie Lemelin ("CSI: Crime Scene Investigation") and Julie White ("Transformers"). "Cavemen" is executive produced by Guymon Casady ("Hope & Faith"), Josh Gordon (directed "Blades of Glory"), Daniel Rappaport ("Fastlane") and Will Speck (also directed "Blades of Glory").

So does the comedy series "Cavemen" have any shot at staying around? Let's look at the timeslot first. It is up against "NCIS" on CBS, "Beauty and the Geek" on The CW, "Bones" on FOX and "The Biggest Loser" on NBC. All are returning shows here. Does ABC want this series to fail before it's even hit the air? Okay so next is the premise. While the GEICO auto insurance ads on television are funny, they're only 30 seconds long. Can they revolve an entire 30 minutes (or 22 minutes without commercials) around these characters and continue to make it funny and more importantly, fresh? I really don't know. I don't have high hopes for this series at all. Another question I have is why didn't they use the all the actors from the GEICO commercials? Only one actor was selected, Jeff Daniel Phillips. I've watched some of the promos on ABC's website and I'm not that impressed. I'm sure the show isn't horrible but I'll probably be tuning into something else on Tuesday night.
