This enchanted series revolves around the life of Ned, a simple pie maker who has an unusually unique ability. What's his ability you ask? Ned is able to raise the dead with just one touch. But having this rare power doesn't go without a few obstacles in its pathway. If Ned touches the deceased once, they live, if he were to touch them again, they die and this time, forever. If that soul stays alive for more than 1 minute, then another being will pass away and it's usually someone in the vicinity.
Ned learned the downside of his ability when he brought his mother back to life when he was young, only to have her pass away a short time later when she gave him a kiss.
A private investigator soon becomes aware of this powerful gift and persuades him to go into business. Ned briefly brings back the deceased who were killed in order to name their murderer and then the two of them are compensated handsomely.
Soon after, Ned finds out that a girl he once adored when he was a young boy has recently died. Charlotte "Chuck" Charles was murdered and Ned decides to bring his beloved back to life. The only problem is that he will never be able to touch her again.
"Pushing Daisies" stars Lee Pace ("The Good Shepherd" and "Wonderfalls"), Chi McBride ("The Nine"), Anna Friel ("The Jury"), Ellen Greene ("Heroes") and Kristin Chenoweth ("Ugly Betty" and "The West Wing"). "Pushing Daisies" was created by and executive produced by Bryan Fuller ("Dead Like Me" and "Wonderfalls"). It is also executive produced by Bruce Cohen ("Traveler"), Dan Jinks ("Side Order of Life") and Barry Sonnenfeld ("Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events").
Does "Pushing Daisies" have any staying power this season? It is up against "Kid Nation" on CBS and "Deal or No Deal" on NBC. "Pushing Daisies" airs right before "Private Practice" which is a spin-off of the successful series, "Grey's Anatomy". I absolutely adore the plot. It's fresh and innovative. I was anxiously anticipating two new shows this season and this was one of them ("Chuck" being the other series). The promos on ABC had me captivated immediately. It's incredibly original and it has a fairytale like quality to it with it's rich, beautiful, and vibrant colors. I was completely engaged with the characters just from viewing the promos. It made me want to see what would happen them. Bravo to ABC! Reviews for the pilot so far have been outstanding from critics. This is one series, you should be watching this season. I hope it finds its niche because this magical drama is definitely worth your time. "Pushing Daisies" premieres on Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm/7c on ABC.
