Fall TV- Cavemen Pilot: Blech

Martina
I almost couldn't make myself watch the Cavemen pilot on ABC. The thought of a Geico commercial turned into a sitcom just didn't move me. But if they had to do it, couldn't it be the gecko? I mean, at least the gecko is cute.

In this un-funny pilot episode the cavemen become the stand in for any maligned ethnic group, kinda like in the commercials. Basically there's nothing in the pilot we haven't seen in the commercials. Well, we do see the pitfalls of interspecies dating played out in stereotypical fashion as the writers ham-fistedly recycle inter-racial dating hang ups circa the Archie Bunker era. From the opening moment the show is so agonizingly predictable it's hard to figure out where they could go with episode 2. Not that I'm even remotely tempted to find out.

Hopefully there will never be a second episode of this show. One small blessing was in the fact they didn't show any female cave people. I'm guessing it's going to be hard to figure out how to present a female character with a giant brow and extreme body hair. Who is going to want to see that? And who's going to buy the cavemen ogling her hairy hotness? Blech. The cavemen talk about hot cave chicks vs. ugly ones at one point, which begs the question: how are they going to make that dichotomy believable? My guess is they won't get the chance. Even if they do, though, I don't won't watch. I'm already kicking myself for watching the entire pilot.
