This half hour comedy revolves around the life of Justin Tolchuk. He's a teen in high school who's a social misfit much to the dismay of his parents particularly his mother. To make matters worse, his sister is beautiful, outgoing and popular. Something in the genes went terribly wrong with him.
Justin's mother who has the best of intentions decides to sign up for the exchange student program at his school. Of course she expects to get the young man on the brochure who is blond, looks physically strong and more importantly, looks to be sociable. This will help her son's social life that is sorely lacking right?
The Tolchuk family gets a major surprise when their exchange student turns out to be a Pakistani Muslim by the name of Raja Musharaff. This must be some kind of cruel joke on Justin. This could only make matters far worse. His mother attempts to return him as if he's a toaster she doesn't want anymore. No can do here.
Justin's mother eventually finds her nurturing side with Raja (due to the fact that both of his parents are dead) and Justin begins to bond with this young man. An friendship starts to develop between the two and Justin begins to think maybe life won't be so bad after all.
"Aliens in America" stars Dan Byrd ("The Hills Have Eyes" and "Boston Legal"), Adhir Kalyan ("Fair City"), Amy Pietz ("Rodney"), Lindsey Shaw ("Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide") and Scott Peterson ("Gilmore Girls"). "Aliens in America" is co-executive produced by Richard Day ("Arrested Development") as well as Michael Glouberman ("Malcolm in the Middle").
So does "Aliens in America" have any shot this season? It's in an excellent time slot as it follows the successful series, "Everybody Hates Chris". It does go up against FOX's "Prison Break" but I don't see that as a problem as "Everybody Hates Chris" has survived. I watched a promo on The CW's website and I really enjoyed it. It looks endearing and the actor who plays Justin Tolchuk (Dan Byrd) is extremely likable. Excellent casting with this character. I think The CW might have a winner with this one. I hope people will tune in as I feel it's definitely worth their time. "Aliens in America" premieres on Monday, October 1st at 8:30pm/7:30c on The CW.
