Fall TV- Desperate Housewives Season 4 Premier

Desperate housewives began its fourth season with plenty of the desperate antics we've come to expect from the ladies of Wisteria Lane.

The big news flash is that Edie isn't dead. But she comes uncomfortably close, with her scheme paying off exactly as she anticipated: Carlos remains firmly in her clutches. So, Carlos' plan to run off with Gabi on her wedding night with Victor is put on hold, though the two do start a clandestine affair, a development that should provide plenty of fireworks in upcoming episodes. Also, Carlos looks distinctly uncomfortable when Edie reveals she's been snooping around his financial records and discovered that he has a secret bank account in the Caymans ten million bucks strong. What has Carlos been up to? Whatever it is it's surely going to cause problems.

Gabi is left with the creepier-by-the-minute Victor, who seems intent on making her the trophy for his political successes, past and future. Expect the Titanic of marital discord with Gabi and Victor, because that ship is destined to sink with many casualties.

The biggest new plot development is the new neighbors. Kathryn Mayfair and her husband Adam move in, along with seventeen-year-old daughter Dylan. With her first introduction to her new neighbors it is already looking as if Kathryn Mayfair may possess some serious mega-b*tch creds of her own:

Kathryn, to Bree: Your garden is absolutely breathtaking, and that pine tree in the back yard...

Bree: My pride and joy.

Kathryn: Oh, it absolutely kills me to have to ask you to cut it down.

And it appears Kathryn may also be hiding a darker secret than any of her neighbors, a secret from her previous life on Wisteria Lane which is so awful her daughter seems to have blocked out her memories of her early childhood spent there. Susan is the only one of the women who lived there twelve years back when Kathryn did, so perhaps the secret will somehow ensnare her. It would almost have to.

And speaking of Susan, she's pregnant. Really pregnant, unlike Bree who's still faking a pregnancy while her daughter waits to deliver in the convent. Secrets, secrets. Susan finds out she's pregnant after her pelvic exam appointment. Her regular doctor is called away and his new partner walks in to do the exam. Imagine her surprise when the new partner is Adam, the new neighbor. The exchange that follows is predictably hilarious:

Adam, to Susan while sitting between her draped knees: Kathryn has talked about you for years. It's nice to finally put a face to the name.

Lynette's secret is revealed when she finally rips off her wig in front of a PTA-crazed third grade mother who is harassing her about the upcoming gala while she's enduring chemo. The housewives look on in stunned silence, after which they all pledge never to keep any secrets. After which nobody reveals the myriad secrets they are still keeping.

With plenty of new plot twists developing it looks like Desperate Housewives Season Four is going to be an eventful one. What will come of the unfortunate quartet of Gabi, Edie, Carlos and Victor? Will Lynette survive cancer? What will come of Bree's baby scheme? And what are Kathryn and Adam hiding? I, for one, can't wait to find out.
