Fall TV Love Affair with Greg House or Hugh Laurie

Greg House Makes Us Love Him in 97 Seconds on Fall TV

I am in love with Greg House. Not Hugh Laurie, Gregory House. This season on Fox Fall TV.

There, it is said. Most of us are in love with him. Scruffy, dressed so as not to let us know if he is skinny or cut, just the kind of mystery that draws us to this imitation Sherlock Holmes, with the modern version keeping the Sherlock-esque House just this side of hot.

He is the bad boy, the mysterious man, the guy we know we ought to stay away from. This season, will he allow us to love him, or, being House, will he let us fall for him again, then take it back by being his dirtbag self?

In the most recent episode, House lets his hand out. He has whittled down the group of 40 potential replacements for the staff he chased away with his mental cruelty. We are left to wonder why he did it? Were they getting too close, and House was afraid to commit?

When he first sees Chase from afar, we assume it is his guilt coming through. House? Guilt? What were we thinking.

When Greg House separates his team into men and women, he opens another set of questions. Why would Greg House do this? He loved having Cameron around, and he is certainly attracted to women, and needs them to push around, so did he plan to have an all female team? Why let one woman jump ship and team up with the men? Perhaps because she was not his type? Or maybe because he is so caught up in himself, that he really does not care.

House gets tough again, and cruel, and tries like many guys do, to push us away. When he says "You gonna cut some cripples eye out" we cringe at his cruelty and realize that we just don't love him- not right now anyway.

Then House draws us back in again. Wilson provides the conscience, or heart, for Greg House, as his Dr. Watson, in this modern day mystery. But this episode nearly takes the heart out of our beloved as House seeks his own truth, test his own questions about death and beyond. Ahh, still my own beating heart that a man is so passionate that he would electrocute himself to discover the mystery of life and death.

But House's strength and intelligence and basic sensibility are in tact. He selects the one person, Amber, to page that has their own interests at heart, getting hired, and will not let him die. Again, more traits in a guy that we can't resist: gusty, wild, yet with the smarts to handle it all.

So, face the reality, that the reason you make sure to be in front of your TV, or make darn sure to Tivo it, is that Greg House is your mystery man, your latest crush. Keep waiting and watching this season to see if your bad boy is coming home, or he just going to break your heart again. Or is it Hugh Laurie you really love. Ask your heart.

  • House shows compassion with just a look when he hears of the patients death.
  • When we want to hate House, we realize he gives women career opportunity.
Heartbreaker: Hugh Laurie is married to Jo Green, has three children and lives in London.
