The fourth season of Desperate Housewives begins on Sunday, September 30th at 9/8c on ABC. These are spoilers for the upcoming season of Desperate Housewives. If you don't want to learn any new scoop about the fourth season, then you will probably want to stop reading now. You have been warned!
Although we last saw Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) in the throes of suicide, she is not dead. Desperate Housewives creator, Marc Cherry describes Edie's appearance as "amazing" and claims that they have done something "unusual" with her. News about Edie's suicide spreads like wildfire throughout Wisteria Lane. Edie survives the suicide attempt, but gets closer to death than expected. Edie's sister, Helen (Claire King) comes to Wisteria Lane.
Susan (Teri Hatcher) and Mike (James Denton) are finally married. Mike will try to be a father to Susan's daughter, Julie (Andrea Bowen). Julie is not accustomed to Mike having this role in her life. Julie will have a new love interest. Susan is pregnant! Susan worries that Mike is not as happy as he should be.
Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) and Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) rekindle their romance. This all begins on her wedding day to another man, Victor (John Slattery). Carlos tells Gabrielle that he never stopped loving her. He wants Gabrielle to pack her things and run away with him. Carlos is afraid Gabrielle will find out about money that he hid from her when they were going through their nasty divorce. Expect their affair to continue while she stays married. Victor may meet an untimely death and Gabrielle will then take his place as mayor. John (Jesse Metcalfe) returns to the show in a guest appearance in the fourth episode. He returns with the actress who played his fiancée-who is now his wife. John confesses to Gabrielle that he is unhappily married and wants her back.
Lynette (Felicity Huffman) is battling the effects of chemotherapy. She starts losing her hair and her energy. Lynette starts wearing a wig because of the hair loss. Always unwilling to let anyone see her sweat, Lynette has a hard time telling people about having cancer. When a woman reminds Lynette that she is supposed to chair a pancake supper, Lynette initially makes excuses as to why she will not be able to assist with the event. Lynette eventually confesses that she has cancer. Lynette's mother, Stella Wingfield (Polly Bergen) has a recurring role this season, as introduced in the third season finale. Expect to see a flashback featuring a young Lynette. Lynette's marriage was greatly strained throughout the third season and is still not completely repaired in the fourth season. Lynette will survive the cancer; the storylines will show how her friends and family react to her being sick and how Lynette, never willing to accept help, has to learn how to rely on others-even her estranged mother. Lynette's sisters, Lydia and Lucy arrive and are unhappy that they have had to take care of their mother for the past nine years. The sisters discuss what to do with their mother. Lucy and Lydia want the mother to go to a home for the elderly and Lynette is unhappy with this idea.
Bree (Marcia Cross) continues to fake being pregnant so she can raise her daughter's baby without anyone knowing that the baby was Danielle's (Joy Lauren). We find out that Bree has another reason for faking the pregnancy. Bree is still wearing the pregnancy suit to make her look pregnant. When an elderly woman tries to touch Bree's "pregnant" belly, Bree tells the woman she doesn't want to be touched. As the woman persists and tries to touch her belly, Bree gets physical. In a scene at a BBQ, a fork stabs Bree in the belly, but she doesn't feel anything because of the padding in the pregnancy suit. Danielle gives birth to a baby boy. After Danielle's baby is born someone unexpected sues for custody. A disagreement happens over the circumcision of Bree's/Danielle's baby. A doctor refuses to perform it based on a letter from the baby's father. A mohel agrees to perform the circumcision if Bree agrees to raise the baby Jewish.
A "new" family moves to Wisteria Lane. Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany) lived on the block twelve years ago with her daughter, Dylan, and aunt, Mrs. Sims. They move into the house that Mike was renting. Katherine's second husband, Adam, is a hunky gynecologist. Viewers can expect to see the newly pregnant Susan in his office. Like most of the residents of Wisteria Lane, the Mayfairs have a dark secret that will be revealed as the season progresses. Creator Marc Cherry says, "They had to leave Chicago because something unsavory happened in Adam's professional life." Katherine is an absolute control freak, a conservative Republican with an all-American wholesomeness and a mastery of passive aggressiveness. Katherine is played by actress Dana Delany who turned down the role of Bree three times, but she may put down roots in Wisteria Lane after all. Katherine's daughter, Dylan was best friends with Susan's daughter, Julie, but does not remember her at all. Dylan seems to suffer from some kind of memory loss indicating a horrific trauma that occurred in her childhood. After all, Dylan did grow up on Wisteria Lane. Viewers will see flashbacks of Dylan and Julie when they were five years old. Katherine and Bree clash almost immediately over a tree and later the two go spatula-to-spatula over a lemon meringue pie recipe.
Another new couple comes to Wisteria Lane. The men are life partners named Bob (Tuc Watkins) and Lee (Kevin Rahm). Lee is a fashion conscious guy who does not like living in the suburbs. He and Susan clash. Bob is more of a buttoned-down man. Bob and Lee throw a Halloween party. A friend of Lee's at the party is tipsy and tells one of the housewives a secret about Lee. Lee was a child actor and then moved into a different end of the filming industry-porn.
Mary Alice appears in person, in flashbacks.
Around episode six or seven, someone will die (probably Victor). Also, there is another death planned for February sweeps. Turn in for new episodes of Desperate Housewives beginning on Sunday, September 30th at 9/8c on ABC.
