"FALL TV" Ugly Betty Re-cap/Review

Ugly Betty

Here's a quick re-cap of the season premiere of Ugly Betty for all those out of the loop.

Ok, so whose cheek got incredibly wet that night? I think for the first time, I had tears while watching Ugly Betty. But, before we get to that, I must start from the beginning.

First things first, after a bit of a romp in Faye's secret room, Amanda discovers that Faye is indeed her birth mom (they found a birth certificate). But who's the daddy? In search of some answers she visited her parents home to get the real deal, and oh yea, she caught them "swinging" in the middle of the day. Cocktails and satin robes! She's gained an incredibly amount of weight just stressing out over this whole situation and now the hunt is on for papa. Or could the answer be right under her nose? Mr. Mead, are you the daddy? Sounds like a Maury show to me.

Alrighty, next up, we left off with Claire Meade busting out of jail. So, she's got a new partner in crime and their both hiding out in the Hamptons. In someone else's home. Her new buddy is lovin' the life but Claire is going out of her mind! Her kids are in the hospital and her ex is re-marrying the wicked witch of the East. So, whats the plan? Set up Whilemina to get beat down in the park while she sneaks to Mr. Meade and tell him to cancel the wedding cause he's marrying a fraud. As "original" as it sounds, the mess didn't work. Whilemina pawned off her sweetiscious assistant to pose as herself in full Whilemina drag in the park. Great, send the assistant to get beat down. So sad. While he's out on a blind task, Willy is waiting back at Mr. Meade's office for Claire. Once Claire's caught, she manages to wet her whistle with a shot of hard liquor, by way of Whilemina of course, but, not without punching the crap out of Whilemina before scooting off to her hideaway.

Speaking of Claire and the kids, Alexis and Daniel are both still in the hospital. Except, Daniel is in wheelchair and Alexis is in a coma. Not yet ready to cope with what happened, Daniel shy's away from getting too close to his sister in the ICU yet isn't really ready to leave the hospital himself. In order to come terms with what happened, he and Betty go to the park to bury the past. (More on Betty later). He finally opens up and tells her why the accident happened in the first place and decides to give up his infamous "happy" pills and throws them in the plot ready to erase the slate clean. On a visit back to the hospital, he finally goes to Alexis' bed side, While in the middle of giving up the ghost and confession Alexis awakens after a long restful coma. Only, is it Alexis or Alex that's back with the living?

Now on to the head "B" in charge, Betty that is. She's a stressful mess of course. With the tragedy, I mean - incident - with Santos still on her heels, her father still stranded in another country, her nephew skipping out on camp, Daniels comeback and her lates love lost, Henry, out of her life, Betty scrambles to pull it all together. Meaning, helping out her family, and job instead of taking care of herself. So, the universe promptly settles her by allowing her to run into a rather huge glass object which leads to a black eye and an eye mask. "Aaaargh matey." (My pirate interpretation). In remembrance of what I mentioned about Daniel burying the past, she too adds to the dirt pile. Every artifact that reminded her of Henry was laid to rest. The montage of things happening at this moment is what struck the water storm.

Hilda and Santos are in her room. She's been caring for him since he got shot and she kind of doesn't want him to return to his place cause , of course, she's scared of losing him. They talk about the wedding, he begs her to put on the dress and then she gets him to read his vows to her. While he reads, we see Betty giving her loves lost eulogy. And it goes back and forth from there. Santos, Betty, Santos, Betty. A little music and gushyness to boot. Then at the end of Santos' vows he tells Hilda he "needs to be getting back." At this moment we're all thinking, yea, he's going back to his place? Then our attention is put towards the kitchen where Betty and her nephew are preparing to make dinner. Betty goes upstairs to get some extra help from Hilda as we see a lonely Hilda, sitting on the bed, in the dark, holding a pillow as she turns to Betty and says, "He's gone Betty. That's the first time I've said that. He's gone." This is followed by a warm, tearful, embrace with Betty as the screen fades to the end where Henry is walking off of a bus in the city.

Wow, that's a lot to soak in. Now that your all caught up, enjoy this weeks show! I'll be back with more re-caps.

Happy Tivo'ing
