I could hardly talk of fall in the Pacific Northwest without recommending a weekend in Yellowstone National Park. Wildlife in abundance such as bears, elk, deer, moose, eagles, beavers, and mountain lions roam the park. Geysers, waterfalls, canyons, cliffs, and spectacular rainbows don't even touch the surface of what one can behold at Yellowstone National Park. I would stay at the Yellowstone Village Inn or one of the Yellowstone National Park Lodges. The Yellowstone Park Lodges have sight-seeing tours, cookouts, scenic cruises, fishing, sunset tours, educational expeditions, and more. The northern entrance to Yellowstone in Gardiner, Montana is open year round. Old Faithful geyser is a must see of Yellowstone National Park. A great dining experience is offered at the Yellowstone Mine Restaurant. Dine in front of the fireplace in a quaint, mining atmosphere.
A distinctive feature of fall in the Pacific Northwest is whale watching opportunities. An ideal spot for just such an event is Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast. The Harbor Lights Inn provides ideal accommodations beginning at $169.00, which includes a home cooked breakfast, a view of the harbor, binoculars, a library, a hair dryer, clothing iron, cable tv with a dvd and vcr, an umbrella, and more. There is also a lounge where you can dine in front of the fireplace without ever having to leave the comfort of the Inn. This is a very cozy, comfortable atmosphere with some nice amenities for fall.
Another extraordinary excursion weekend for the autumn would be Mount Saint Helens. Mount Saint Helens is an active volcano in Washington. Some of the area activities include hiking, fishing, boating, and more. The photography opportunities are innumerable. Monument passes are needed for visitors stations, hiking, and climbing. Permits can be obtained at the Lone Fir Resort in Cougar, Washington. Rates at the Lone Fir Resort Motel are quite reasonable beginning at just $60.00 a night. The cafe is quaint and very reasonably priced. The Lone Fir Resort is also centrally located near Mount Saint Helens, the National Forest, the Lewis River, and much more. The visitors center at Silver Lake is open year round. Castle Rock Exhibit Hall is also open year round, except on certain holidays.
