Falling Asleep Naturally!

Michelle Hoffmann
About 13 years ago I was taught a little trick that has helped me to fall asleep almost whenever I want to.

It all started after an automobile accident that left me with a severe injury. An object was catapulted through the rear window of my pick-up and came to a sudden stop when it met my head. Result ... lights out.

Initially learning how to walk without falling down and talking without a slur or stutter were the major hurdles, but I eventually overcame them. The battle then changed from one of trying to staying awake, to the battle of sleepless nights and continued until a chance meeting with an old country doctor.

Ever since that chance encounter I can fall asleep in a matter of seconds. On the rare occasion it takes a bit longer and I may have to sit up and do a bit of slow breathing before I try again. So now I can sleep anywhere or any time I choose.

What the old Doc taught me was that active thinking is what keeps us awake. If we can just make out thinking passive we would fall asleep almost immediately.
At least that was the idea... lol. Forget about trying not to think it doesn't work!

But there are a few things you can do to condition your mind to respond to specific stimuli by having you go to sleep. Odds are that you already know one of these techniques even though you may not have realized it.

Have you ever watched a hypnotist at work? Many of them have you either recite numbers backwards or listen to a countdown, have you ever wondered why?

We all know how to count, from childhood on its part of us and something we can do without thinking. See where this is going yet?

Thats right, no matter how easy it is there is still "some" thinking involved and as our minds can only concentrate on one thing at a time the counting pushes everything else out!

However because we can count so easily the thinking involved is minor and our minds get bored easily and slip into the first stages of sleep, slowly clouding our thought until we finally drift off.

Do this every night when you lay down to sleep, start at 100 and count slowly backwards to 1. In short order you will find that no matter how busy or worrisome your day has been you will fall asleep in no time at all.

Nighty night.
