Falling in Love

With a Distant Memory

Etienne J. Sarfelli
Time has faded those jagged edges

Leaving in its place a beautiful moment in time

A time when we were friends

A time when we were lovers

A time when I was happy with the world

But the truth is not like those memories

None of that ever really existed

We weren't friends or lovers or anything at all

Those were just the things I allowed myself to believe

Things I allowed myself to feel

I see your face in my mind now

And I dream again all those things I used to dream

When I believed that we could be so happy

if only you loved me as much as I loved you

It's funny how the mind plays tricks

How I could make myself believe that

things were something they were not

how I can make myself believe those things again

after all that has happened

after all the time that has passed

Time has faded those jagged edges

And allowed me to fall in love again

With a distant memory

that never really took place.
