The third DLC for Fallout 3,Broken Steel, will immediately appeal to fans of the game as it allows you to continue exploring the wasteland after completing the main quest as well as raising the experience level cap from 20 to 30. After installing the DLC, once you've played the game to its previous conclusion, you'll be called into action by the Brotherhood of Steel once more. 'Can't I have another three weeks in bed?' you plead, but the Brotherhood Knights throw a bucket of irradiated ice water over you and it's back into the fray (not really). You're required to help mop up the final remnants of the dastardly Enclave, which involves undertaking some serious assaults on their number, taking no prisoners and offering no mercy.

The missions are really engaging and you feel like you're playing a genuinely important part in the future of honourable civilisation - something we all crave (unless you're one of those bad people). After initially leading a squadron of BOS Knights supporting the superbly retro robot Liberty Prime (talking-tin-can harbinger of death), you're back on your lonesome taking the fight to the enemy.

In scenes reminiscent of the claustrophobic fighting in the subways of the Black Mesa Research Facility in Half-Life, you'll encounter presidential security droids warring with swarms of ghouls, whose number now includes the uber-deadly feral reavers. These new foes will be a stern test for even the most skilled player as they batter you at range with radioactive flesh-bombs before rushing in for savage close-quarters attacks. Oh yeah, they also take a lot of punishment before they go down. As for the old enemy, the Enclave, they're now fielding Hellfire Troopers - specialists at pyromania who'll engulf you in flames from afar with their nightmarish heavy incinerators.

Thankfully, the BOS have developed the unfathomably powerful tesla cannon for you to wield against these dangerous adversaries. This mega-heavy weapon sends out a bolt of energy akin to a lightning strike - those hit by a straight blast won't live very long, as the electricity continues to inflict damage whilst dancing around their fading vital signs. Perhaps the best thing about this super-duper device, however, is the fact it allows you to take out the Enclave's vertibirds mid-flight, which is, of course, massively satisfying. This, combined with the means to team up with captured deathclaws makes for hours (roughly 4-5) of highly enjoyable carnage and gameplay - making Broken Steel the best by far of the first three DLC packages.
