Fallout 3: How to Disarm the Bomb in Megaton

Kyle Minor
Disarming the bomb in Megaton in Fallout 3, assuming you make you character geared to be able to complete this task via assigning points to the proper areas when leveling up, is one of the easiest tasks with the most benefit at the beginning of the game. Once you have disarmed the bomb, you will own the vacant house in Megaton, which has many advantages. In addition, once the quest is completed, you will get "The Power of the Atom" achievement.

To begin this Fallout 3 quest, you just need to talk to Lucas Simms, the town Sheriff, about the bomb. Eventually you will have the option to offer to disarm the bomb in the middle of the town. Once you have accepted the quest from Lucas, you will need to get you "Explosives" skill up to at least 25. Once you have achieved the appropriate point value for the "Explosives" skill, you simply need to approach the bomb in the middle of Megaton, and interact with it. You will select the option "Activate Bomb," but don't worry, this doesn't mean anything bad. It will just give you a new menu, with the option to disarm the bomb. Congratulations, you have disarmed the bomb in Megaton and completed the "The Power of the Atom" quest.

Once you have disarmed the bomb, go find Lucas Simms again, or Harden Simms, his son (in the case that Burke killed Lucas), and he will give you the deed and key to the vacant house in town as well as some caps (the currency in Fallout 3). Once you own the house, you will have a home that you can customize, and a robot butler. The butler is a pretty funny guy, telling you jokes and giving you free sanitized water. Another excellent perk of owning the house is that you get a 10% experience point bonus for a short amount of time after sleeping in a bed that you own.

NOTE: As an alternative to leveling up the "Explosives" skill to disarm the bomb, you may be able to use the bonuses associated with certain pieces of equipment that you may have. For example, the "Raider Blastmaster Helmet" gives you a +5 to the "Explosives" skill, or even using "Mentats," which will net +5 to "PE." "Mentats" can be obtained even at the beginning of the game by speaking with Leo in Megaton. You will have an option to use a "Speech" on Leo, which will get you his stash if successful. Another reason Fallout 3 is such an excellent game: some much versatility in how you accomplish each quest.

The next quest I would recommend in Fallout 3 is getting Dog Meat, your pet dog. For instructions on getting your dog, click HERE.

yeah its better to do it. Plus if you tell lucas simms about burke blowing up the town lucas dies and you get his uber chinese assault rifle lol. It's a pretty good gun to start with in the beginning of the game. halfway repaired chinese assault gun is better than a fully repaired normal assault gun.
