Fallout 3 Easter Eggs List

Jacob M. Lee
Fallout 3 is one of the best RPGs ever created. Reviews heralded its ridiculously large open gameplay. With such a large world to explore, the creators hid a number of easter eggs within the game. The following are a list of the better easter eggs you can find. WARNING: Descriptions below may contain spoilers.

Dogmeat

Character Info (Wikia)

Dogmeat is one of the possible companion characters in Fallout 3. For those who didn't know, Dogmeat has been a recurring recruitable character in all the Fallout games.

Harold and Bob

During your quests, you might come upon a talking tree named Harold who regularly references a character by the name of Bob. Harold is a regularly occurring ghoul character in the Fallout universe who has appeared in all three Fallout games. In Fallout 2, a small tree begins growing out of his head, which he calls Bob. In Fallout 3 the tree has grown a bit larger than Harold can handle.

Cerberus

Video (YouTube)

Ceberus is the robotic guard at the ghoul town of Underworld. His name references the guard dog from Greek mythology that guards the gates of Hades (i.e. the Greek "Underworld"). If you talk to Cerberus, he even mentions that he is the local "guard dog".

Raven Rock

Location Info (Wikia)

Raven Rock is the home of the Enclave in Fallout 3. However, it's named after a real government facility in Pennsylvania (see Wikipedia entry). Incidentally, Raven Rock was also the name of a location in the Bloodmoon expansion for Elder Scrolls III.

Guy Fawkes

Character Info (Wikia)

Fawkes is another possible companion character in Fallout 3. He takes his name off the legendary Guy Fawkes, a man behind the Gunpower Plot, a failed assasination attempt on King James of England. Guy Fawkes isn't as widely known in America as in England, but you may recognize his caricatured face. It was used as the mask by "V" in the book/movie "V for Vendetta".

Fat Man

Weapon Info (YouTube)

The Fat Man is one of the most powerful weapons you can get in Fallout 3. It's name comes from the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki during World War II (Wikipedia Entry).

Pittsburgh Sports Teams

Video (YouTube)

In The Pitt DLC, you can obtain a Tribal Power Armor by collecting 100 steel ingots for Everett. The Pitt DLC takes place in the remnants of Pittsburgh, PA. The Tribal Power Armor is yellow & black, which is a reference to the colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bethesda Softworks

Location Info (Wikia)

You'll uncover several locations in Fallout 3 with the name Bethesda, such as the Bethesda Ruins, Bethesda Underworks, Bethesda Offices East, and Bethesda Offices West. This is a clear reference to Fallout 3 developer Bethesda Softworks, who got their name from the city of Bethesda, MD.

walking in springvale on fallout 3, i noticed a metal tab on one of the telegraph poles, it says RPB-25
on it, is this a reference to the "red phone box" stories ep25? i've read it and it doesn't seem likely

Doh! You're right. Thanks for the catch.

Dogmeat WAS a recruitable character in fallout 1. You had to feed him lizard-on-a-stick, and then he would follow you. Please correct that.
