Fallout 3: The Wasteland Survival Guide Chapter 3

Kyle Minor
Chapter 3 of the Fallout 3 Wasteland Survival Guide will revolve around the history and societies around the world of Fallout. Moira is ready to get the final chapter completed, so let's begin.

Research Rivet City's History

This quest, while fairly easy, is pretty time consuming as well. Moira wants you to find out about the history of Rivet City, and why it has been so prosperous. Upon arriving at Rivet City, which is a giant boat, you will see a little wireframe tower. At the top of this 3 story structure, you will find a speaker. Interact with the speaker, and the guards at Rivet City will extend the bridge to you. To complete this quest, you need to talk to a lot of people, always asking about the history of Rivet City. Eventually, you will learn that Mr. Pinkerton was one of the founders of Rivet City.

To reach him, you will have to exit Rivet City to get to the broken part of the ship. You will need to cross a walkway, where there will be a locked door requiring a 100 lock picking skill level. If you don't have this level yet, there is another way. Jump into the water on the left side of the door. Keep following alongside this section of the boat until you come to an underwater door. Enter the door, but watch out for Mirelurks and traps. Either way you enter the structure, once you speak with Mr. Pinkerton, he will give you the records of Rivet City, at which point you can return to Moira.

There is another option for this task. You can speak with Bannon, who will tell you that he founded the city. Bannon can be found in the Rivet City Marketplace during the day, and once you complete a task for him, you will get all the information you need and be able to report back to Moira.

For this task, Moira will give you 5 Mentats, as well as a permanent 10% discount for Rivet City merchants.

RobCo Production Facility

This time, Moira wants you to check out the RobCo Factory. To complete the optional side quest here, you will need a science level of 50 or more. She will give you the RobCo Processor Widget, which you need to keep with you for this task. Moira will give you the location of the factory, so stock up on healing supplies and head that way. Once you reach the factory, equip the mole rat repellant stick, as most of the enemies here are mole rats and radroaches. Follow the waypoint on your map to find the RobCo production facility mainframe.

Once there, place the widget in the mainframe. All of the robots in the facility will instantly activate and become hostile. Interact with the mainframe again, assuming you have a science level of 50 or more, to turn the robots to your side. After hacking the mainframe, select the function that ceases the hostile robot actions. This will trigger completion of the optional side quest.

If you are not able to hack the mainframe to keep the robots from attacking you, you can use a Stealth Boy to escape undetected by the robots, assuming you don't fire a gun. Your reward for completing this task will be 3 Pulse Grenades (which only affect robots) and a Big Book of Science (which will raise your Science skill by at least 1).

Arlington Public Library

For the final section of the final chapter of the Fallout 3 Wasteland Survival Guide, Moira wants you to get as much information from the Arlington Public Library as possible. The main objective is very simple. Just enter the library, and talk to the Brotherhood of Steel scribe. Once you are in the library, access the terminal at the front desk to retrieve the card catalogue to fulfill the main task objective. To get the optional task, retrieving the complete library archive, you will have to fight your way through the library killing raiders and radroaches.

For completing this task, Moira will give you some bottle caps. She will also give you a Lying, Congressional Style book and 250 more bottle caps if you tell her the Library is still like it used to be.

The Wasteland Survival Guide is Now Complete

Now that the Wasteland Survival Guide has been finished, Moira will give you the Survival Expert perk, as well as a Mini-Nuke. Congratulations, quest completed!
