Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle
For people who like to kill their enemies from a safe distance, the Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle is a great choice for Fallout New Vegas snipers. While it does a little less damage per shot than the vanilla Sniper Rifle, the increased accuracy and rate of fire gives it a higher DPS. In addition the Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle also features a larger magazine and weighs less than the regular version. Oh, and it has a cool desert camouflage pattern on it.
The Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle is tucked away inside a locked (100 Lockpicking required) chest at the Snipers Nest map location due west of Cottonwood. Easiest way to get there if you haven't cleared out Cottonwood yet is to go to Ranger Station Echo and head south and slightly west, following the unfilled triangle indicator that should be on your map. The Snipers Nest also has some .308 rounds and a Star Saparilla Cap.
AER14 Prototype Laser Rifle
If you prefer to travel the Mojave Wasteland with a laser weapon on your hip (or slung on your back), then take a trip to Vault 22 to get your hands on the AER14 Prototype. With a considerably higher DPS (damage per second) than the regular Laser Rifle, the AER14 and its green bolts will clear out enemies a bit faster. In addition to doing a full 22 points of damage per shot compared to the regular Laser Rifle's 15, the AER14 also has a greater chance of scoring a critical (2.0 for the AER14 compared to 1.5 for the regular).
The AER14 is found in Vault 22. If you haven't located Vault 22 yet it is located in the northwest portion of the map, almost due northwest of the Sunset Sarpsarilla HQ. If you are running missions for the NCR, you will almost certainly be given a map note to the Vault (it's the Vault with the jungle out in front of it). Once inside the Vault, proceed to the 5th level where you will eventually encounter stairs leading up that are blocked off by a cave in. There you will find the corpse of an unlucky vault dweller and nearby you will find the AER14 laying on the ground.
Recompense of the Fallen
For those who are training their Unarmed skills in Fallout, the Recompense of the Fallen is a great rare weapon to explore New Vegas with, assuming you can get through the squad of Caesar's Legions guarding the location. Sharpened dog tags are taken from fallen soldiers are bound by chains and wrapped around the users hand and wrist, creating a deadly glove. The Recompense of the Fallen has a modest DPS of only 47, a normal critical chance, and an average cost to use in VATS. However it never needs silenced and doesn't require any ammo.
To get your hands on the Recompense of the Fallen, travel again to Cottonwood and make your way to the office of the Aurelius of Pheonix, one of Caesar's Legion. The Recompense can be found inside of his desk so there is no need to kill him unless you are bad at stealing or just plain can't stand the Caesar's Legion. This unique weapon has the same appearance as the regular Dog Tag Fist.

Conclusion
There are many more rare and unique weapons and armor to be found in Fallout New Vegas, and we will be looking at those in other upcoming articles. Even if you don't need these weapons now it is always a good idea to keep them in mind for future play throughs. New Vegas is a big place and you can't see it all with just one play of the game.
