Falsies Volume Express Mascara Works Better Than Many Similar Products on the Market Today

Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
As the writer for a British-based beauty site, I am expected to review a large number of beauty products. It is a fun task but it can also be a difficult one. Just because a product doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for someone else. Such is the case with the product I am about to review -- Falsies Volume Express Mascara from Maybelline.

Let me go on record saying that I'm a huge fan of Maybelline beauty products. I particularly like their mascara. Therefore, it isn't a leap to assume I might like this new version of Volume Express. But did I? Let's take a look at the claims made by this product and see how they stand up.

Falsies Volume Express Mascara claims it provides perfect volume in an instant by making every lash visible. It also says it doesn't leave any unsightly gaps that would destroy the volumized look. Is that true?

Yes it is. Falsies Volume Express Mascara slowly but surely covers each lash with a thin coat of mascara. However, it doesn't always catch every lash in a single coat. It may take several coats to get particularly thin or sparse lashes to pop the way you want them to. Nonetheless, I think the product easily deserves 4 out of 5 stars for this claim.

Next Falsies Volume Express Mascara promises the look of false lashes without actually having to use them. In fact, it promises 300 percent more visible lashes. Does it deliver?

No it does not. Don't get me wrong. This is undeniably great mascara. However, it doesn't go far enough to make anyone think you are wearing false eyelashes. It also doesn't magnify lashes by 300 percent. Of course you could put on a dozen or so coats of the product and probably expand the look significantly. Even then, I don't see it looking like false lashes. It would probably just look like a mess. This claim gets 2 out of 5 stars.

Next, the product claims its unique spoon brush helps to lift and separate lashes. Does it work?

Yes it does. However, this isn't the first, or likely the last, mascara to use a curved brush. Many of today's best mascaras use something similiar. Maybelline's brush really isn't all that unique in look. It is; however, somehow unique in function.

Falsies Volume Express Mascara provides amazing definition and coverage. I found lashes I didn't even know that I had in places I thought were barren. So Falsies Volume Express Mascara gets 4 out of 5 stars on this claim as well.

Falsies Volume Express Mascara claims that it is washable. That means you should be able to remove it with simple soap and water. Can you?

Yes you can if you purchase the washable format, which is clearly marked on the label. Falsies Volume Express Mascara also comes in a waterproof formula for those who prefer something a little more difficult to "lose." The washable product removes easily with makeup wipes or soap and water. Best of all, it doesn't damage or destroy your lashes. This claim gets 5 out of 5 stars.

The product offers mascara in colors that suit everyone. Is that true?

As far as I can tell, this product only comes in brown/black, black drama and blackest black. That leaves out the woman who prefers brown mascara or those who like a touch of color. However, that isn't the claim. The claim is a color to suit everyone and the masacara in brown/black is a good alternative for those who prefer brown. Therefore Falsies Volume Express Mascara still gets 4 out of 5 stars on this claim.

That is 19 out of a possible 25 stars. That might not sound good, but in reality it really is. A lot of today's mascara doesn't come close. This one is a real winner!

Falsies Volume Express Mascara should be available wherever Maybelline eye products are sold. The cost will vary a bit from store to store but should retail for between $7 and $10.

When I worked and wore make-up I also wore conacts and avoided mascara. Now I just avoid all make-up!
