Family Activities and Attractions in the Hudson Valley Area of New York

The Hudson Valley Region offers up great family fun if you know where to look for it. If your planning a visit to the region consider these stops for family-friendly activities and most of it is educational too. The valley is host to several cultural attractions, fun-based amusement and nature based activities.

The Trolley Museum is located off the New York State Thruway in Kingston, NY. The museum offers up static exhibits as well as a trolley ride. The Museum is opened weekends and during Holiday's as well as during some special events. Price of admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children aged 2-12.

Further up the Hudson Valley line families can find a world of fun at Lake George. The lake offers theme parks for the kids including The Great Escape and Lake George Action Park. The Lake George Steamboats offer a more relaxing view of the natural scenery once fun is had at the theme parks.

If you are going to venture into Rhinebeck and Hyde Park don't miss the Old Rhinebeck Aerodome. The museum-esque attraction houses tons of old planes that take to the skies for mock battle on the weekends. Pricing varies by age; adults $20, teens $15, children $5. The attraction opens in may but air shows are put on every weekend starting in June, weather permitting. The kids will love seeing the old planes and watching the aerial show.

If you are planning a visit in the latter end of the summer, think early September stop by Wright's Apple Farm in Gardiner, NY and let the kids pick their own apples. Adults pay $8 while kids under 10 pay $3.50. They also offer up jams, jellies and assorted fruits and convections for your enjoyment. If you are planning an earlier trip there is a 2-3 week season of cherry picking, the season is short so you should check ahead of time. Picnicking is welcome on the site.

The Hudson Valley is a wide spread area so plan accordingly, but there is definitely not a shortage of things to do.
