Everyone knows the holidays mean getting together with family, eating home cooked meals, opening presents, singing Christmas carols, and decorating the house with lights and ornaments, but the holidays also mean something else: shopping and sales. The average person always dreads the traffic and the crowds, but yet they go anyway for the great deals. But knowing where the great deals are is difficult. Well, one store in Greenville is making this easy and making the deals worth braving the traffic and the crowds. Old Time Pottery, a relatively new closeout store on the motor mile on Laurens road, offered boxed Christmas trees for next to nothing prices this holiday season; some trees were even down in the 20's of dollars, while others were as low as the 40s. Holiday decorations such as wreaths, trees, garland, candle holders, and many more; ornaments; cooking pots and pans; and silk floral decorations were cut in price. Most of these items sold out quickly as there were limited quantities, but the store is still brimming with new deals almost monthly.

The store first opened in October of 2004 and ever since then has gained notoriety and popularity within the upstate, especially with their yearly seasonal items. The company is family owned out of Tennessee and tries to offer a diverse selection but with lower prices than competing stores. The Old Time Pottery store holds such a variety of items that customers are often surprised at the size of the store and how many different items the store sells. The store was the only Old Time Pottery location in South Carolina until the recent opening of the new location in Myrtle Beach, offering both the upstate and the lower state the opportunity to explore their selections and low prices. The only downside to such closeout stores is the limited supply of certain items in stock, so customers have to be sure to get them while they last. The definition of "closeout" is a store that buys overstock items at low prices to resell them at lower prices than what other stores would sell them for. This means that items once seen in the store may or may not appear again. Many items are restocked at different times of the year and appear regularly, but some specialty items appear only once or a few times in the stores. Also, each Old Time Pottery Store may or may not have the same items in stock as another store in a different location.

The main thing to remember this holiday season, when shopping around for good deals, is to always ask for a gift receipt when buying gifts that may need to be returned. Most people don't like to think that their friends and family will return their gifts, but it is better that they get something they really want incase the gift they got doesn't match the décor or their needs, and especially if there happens to be some manufacture defect in the item. If the store does not offer gift receipts it would probably be a good idea to either make sure you can give the main receipt to the recipient of the gift or to make the gift a separate purchase from other items so that there will be a separate receipt specifically for the gift. Also, for the sake of those who receive your gifts this Christmas, make sure to check the return policies of the stores you shop at. Some stores will not take Christmas items back after a certain date, usually in January, and some might not take items back at all, or will not take them back except in certain cases or conditions. With these precautions, any shopper should be well in hand to have reduced-stress, Christmas shopping experience.

Happy Holidays everyone and pleasant shopping!
