Family Friendly Events in Boston Metro July 27-August 3

Boston and the areas surrounding offer plenty of activities for the month of August to keep you and your family busy. Here is a list of some of the most notable things to do in Boston with kids from July 27th through August 3rd. Most of the items on this list are free of charge. Please also note that as more events are presented to my knowledge, I will be posting updates to this list on my blog, Remarkable Boston Events.

Every Tuesday from July 13 to August 10 the 2010 Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park presents a free concert in Franklin Park. The live music performances are free and open to the public; lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are encouraged. There will be two concerts for each Tuesday event; one at 11am that is youth oriented and another performance geared more toward adults at 6pm. The 11am show on July 27th will feature OrigiNation and at 6pm will be Boston Soul Revue.

Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game

On Wednesday, July 28, some of the best players for the Cape Cod Baseball League will come to play in Boston. In addition to the All-Star game, the family friendly Fenway Park event will include a Pre-Game Home Run Derby, autograph sessions with the players and a silent auction. Past players that have come from the Cape Cod League to participate in this event include Jason Varitek, Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Lowell, and Kevin Youkilis. More info and tickets

On Wednesdays at 7pm through September 1st, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra will be performing Beethoven's works for a free concert at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade. The West End World Cup will soccer fans aged 12 and younger (and optionally, their parents) to take part in this team soccer tournament while representing competing countries. Creative Arts at Park presents an Arts Festival Day on Friday, July 30th; the event is free and open to the public. Families can enjoy a full days worth of performances, exhibits and demonstrations of various art forms such as performing, visual and written arts. From July 30th to August 1st, the North End neighborhood of Boston will honor Saint Agrippina with the St. Agrippina's Feast. The italian religious festival, which is now going on its 96th year, will offer food, live entertainment and an experience rich in culture that all ages can enjoy. The OPENAIR Circus presents a beach themed show in which 170+ performers of all ages (mostly children) will demonstrate stilting stunts, juggling and a variety of other circus skills that they have learned this summer at the OPENAIR Circus program. There will be four shows spanning over three days, all taking place at Nunziato Field at Vinal Ave. and Summer Street in Somerville.

Somerville's 7th Annual National Night Out is presented by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the Somerville Police Department and Somerville Cares About Prevention in an effort to bring the community and law enforcement together and heighten support and awareness of drugs and crime prevention. The event will offer free food, info tables, youth activities, police vehicles and K-9 Demonstrations, music and dance entertainment and more. Speeches will be given by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Police Chief Michael Cabral.
