Family friendly Halloween events in Pittsburgh aren't always the easiest to find. When people think of Halloween they think of haunted houses and Kennywood's Fright Fest. These Pittsburgh Halloween events are not always suitable for young children and those who don't like to be scared. Luckily Pittsburgh has a lot of family friendly Halloween events.

The most famous family friendly Halloween event in Pittsburgh is Idlewild's Hallowboo. Idlewild is an amusement park for children and families. It normally features Story Book Forest, Raccoon Lagoon, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood of Make-Believe and many more. For Hallowboo some of these areas will be closed and the rest of the park will be given a Halloween twist. They have trick or treating though storybook forest, themed rides, two mazes, and costumed characters. Another plus is that you can come costumed, but they park asked that adults do not wear masks and very scary costumes. Hallowboo is open September 26&27, October 3&4, 10&11, 17&18, 24&25. Another area attraction that offers family friendly Halloween events is the Gateway Clipper. Gateway Clipper operates three ships that travel along Pittsburgh's rivers. During the Halloween Season, they offer a family friendly Halloween cruise called Halloween Monster Party. They have a Halloween costume party for the kids, prizes and Halloween characters. They have two cruises this year: one on October 24, 2009 from 1:15 to 3:30 and on October 31, 2009 from 10:30am till 1:00pm. A child's ticket is $12.75 and an adult's ticket is $19.75. Pittsburgh National Aviary will giving Halloween its own twist with a Owl-O-Ween. This family friendly event will feature aviary trainers bring out its spookiest residents, owls, vultures, and crows. Visitors will have a chance to learn about these animals. They will also have the chance to "trick or treat" at each encounter. Admission for children under 11 wearing a costume is free. This family friendly event will be held on 10/24, 10/25, and 10/31. Also on 10/27 the Aviary will be holding Jeppers Creepers for its youngest guests. This Halloween the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium will be holding its KDKA ZooBoo for Kid's Sake. Families will be able to enjoy Halloween events like a Haunted House, a spooky Train Ride, costume parade, special animal activities, and trick-or-treating.
