For those Boone County residents that enjoy a little competition, there is a wide variety of contests at the fair for all age groups. 4-H kids can register to participate in horse, sheep, goat, poultry, and other animal showcases. Your children can also have a great time getting involved in the pig scramble, the great rock race, or the watermelon seed spitting contest. Adults can take part in numerous competitions as well. Exhibit buildings hold the entries for competitions that include items such as: flowers, crops, photography, art, needlework, cakes and other foods, and quilts. Judging takes place throughout the week and blue ribbons are awarded to proud winners.
The competitive spirit is just one aspect of the Boone County Fair. There is always a large array of rides that the children and teens enjoy. Traditional festival games are also part of the experience. Kids and adults try their luck to win prizes ranging from teddy bears, basketballs, posters, and even goldfish.
The Boone County Fair has three different grand stand areas that provide a variety of entertainment each night. Guests at the fair can watch a demolition derby, horse show, and see a country music band perform live all in one night! There is also the very popular "Miss Boone County Fair" beauty pageant, a truck tug of war, arm wrestling, and karaoke fun for all ages. There is something for everyone at the Boone County Fair.
Those that attend the fair will leave with a very full stomach. Treats and food range from the expected to the unexpected. Visitors might choose to eat the typical fair food such as, hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes, snow cones, fries, or fish sandwiches. Those who possess a palate for more indulgent food might instead choose homemade fudge, homemade pies, locally grown roasted corn on the cob, juicy smoked chicken, country ham sandwiches, fresh doughnuts, and barbeque sandwiches with some freshly squeezed lemonade to wash it all down. Yum!
