Family Holiday Movies

Shan
It has always been tradition in my family to watch certain holiday movies together every holiday season. Now that I am older and I am watching these movies with my own children instead of with my parents, I have realized that the movies we are watching most now are not the same classics I grew up watching but newer movies that I think will be classics of their own one day. I have also realized and understand why my mom use to seem to be crying while we were laughing at some of these movies.

There are still a few classics my kids and I equally enjoy but most of our holiday movie viewings are recent hits. We all still enjoy Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. It is normally shown in late November or early December and is usually the first Holiday movie we gather together in the living room to watch for the season. We always watch Home Alone 1 and 2 together as these two movies are some of the kids favorites. Frosty The Snowman is another classic I grew up watching with my partners I can still enjoy with my children as well as How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The kids love this one mainly because my husband can quote word for word the entire 30 minute cartoon and the kids love it!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation is near the top of my list of all time favorite holiday movies and the kids seem to love it just as much as I do tho I am sure we like it for different reasons. i watched it for the first time with my grandfather and i remember him laughing so hard he almost cried and now that he is gone every time I watch it I think of him laughing and tho the movie is a comedy it always brings a tear to my eye. A more recent holiday movie we all watch together is The Polar Express. This one is sure to be one families will enjoy together for years to come.

A Christmas Story was an instant hit with my kids and if asked I think they would probably put this one as their favorite holiday movie. It was one of my favorites also as a child and I am sure alot of families enjoy watching this one together. And you cannot miss this one on christmas eve or christmas day as most stations play it over and over for 48 hours.

And last but not least, the only other classic I can sit down and enjoy with my kids as I did with my parents is Its a Wonderful Life. I hope that my kids will enjoy watching some of the same movies we watched together we their own children one day and when they do I hope they think of us watching these holiday classics together and then they will understand why, while they were laughing at most of thses movies, mom was crying.
