Several common trends are listed below. When choosing your baby names, you may choose to use one of these family naming trends. You may also make up your own naming trend that is unique to your family.
Names Starting with the Same Letter(s)
Example: John, Jessica, and Jake
This is probably the most common among the family naming trends. Many parents choose to begin all of their children's names with the same letter. If you choose to use this trend, choose the first letter wisely. You would not want baby number four to arrive without a name left that you liked.
A twist on the trend is to begin all daughters' names with the mother's first initial and, similarly, begin all sons' names with the father's first initial.
Rhyming Names
Example: Mary, Carrie, and Larry
This trend was once popular with twins. Today, some parents choose to use this trend for all of their children. While some parents may find this trend quite confusing, other parents may find it fun.
Names with the Same Number of Syllables
Example: Jonathon, Clarissa, and Adrian
This is a simple trend. Many parents who want each of their children to have unique names choose this trend. While each child's name is special to them, the trend gives the family a way to link the names.
Alphabetical Names
Example: Amy, Beth, and Christian
Sometimes parents will choose to name their children in alphabetical order. Most commonly, parents will start with an "A" name, but you could start at any letter in the alphabet.
Ascending or Descending Name Lengths
Example: Joe, Tina, and Scott
This trend is also quite simple and a cute way to link children's names together. You could use this trend alone or as a combination with another trend.
Middle Name Trend
One last alterative for a trend is to choose unique first names that are not linked in any way. Then, use any of the above trends on the children's middle names.

Post a CommentFun article! We have one duaghter who's name begins with A. It would be fun to give our second a B name! (But not sure if I'll be able to find one I like!)
Fun stuff! I have a Hannah and I like Josiah but then I wonder if I'm setting myself up for having to come up with more 'ah' names! :o)
Fun article. LOL I never considered any of these when I named my children. Oh well missed the cool naming trends:)
Our kids both have "C" names but it was kind of a fluke too. Our favorite names happened to begin with C. It does roll of the tongue easily though! Great article.
How fun. I know a few people who did this, but not many. Great suggestions. :-)
Fun article!
I have known a few families who have done this...I just don't have that much creativity! :) (Plus, I think I learned from having too many "Mels" in my family growing up! It gets very confusing)
I dont think my parents had a system for naming, Dad wanted a JR. and mom had some favorites. The younger sibs were put up to a family vote!
I enjoyed reading this article, Tina. Interesting trends!
I didn't chose my sons' names in any particular way--just flipped through about a dozen name books and several name websites. LOL
