Family Outdoor Fun On the Cheap

With warm weather rapidly approaching bringing the summer months along with it now is the perfect time to spend some time outdoors and away from your computers/television! There are many fun activities people can participate in to enjoy the outdoors. I'm going to focus on activities that families can do with their children that are simple and affordable.

1. Take a trip to the beach-if you have a beach by you consider taking a trip to the beach. It's extremely affordable with the only expense of bringing your own food/water plus gas money. It's a great way to enjoy the warm weather. You can enjoy the water, go snorkeling, hunt for seashells, play a game of volleyball, football, or frisbee, build sandcastles, treasure hunt, or get a suntan. If you don't mind spending a little extra and your beach offers it you can enjoy a boat ride or jet ski ride.

2. Go on a nature walk/hike-Have a handy list of local plants, flowers, and wildlife available and turn it into a game for your kids. See who can find the most things off your list and bonus points for things not included on the list that they can identify (of course stay away from poison ivy.oak). If you allow them to collect their findings (excluding wildlife) they can make a collage of their findings when you return back home to hang on the refrigerator or wherever you would like to place it.

3. Go to your local zoo-Going to the zoo is a great family activity that I highly enjoyed as a child and even now as an adult. While going to the zoo can get a little pricey with parking fees, admission fees, and food/beverage fees some parks do allow you to bring your own food/water which will help lessen the expenses for those on a tighter budget. Make sure you have a plan of which animals your want to see first and any shows you plan on attending if your zoo offers shows. Also, it's a good idea to choose a meeting place in case you happen to get separated from each other. Your children will love seeing all the animals especially the ones you are allowed to interact with.

4. Have a picnic/cookout-Another fun activity for the family that is highly affordable. Take a trip down to your local park and have a cookout or picnic whichever you prefer. Bring along your camera, frisbee, kites, bikes, football, volleyball (whichever activity you want like) and spend the day outside together.

5. Go fishing-Teach your child how to fish! Fishing can be another fun activity to be enjoyed together. Not only will you possibly be teaching something new to your child, but fishing teaches them to have patience so they can make the perfect catch.

There are plenty of things to do if you just take a little effort to actually walk away from your computer/television and you won't regret all the bonding and memories you create by enjoying some family time outdoors.
