South Orange, New Jersey is rich in history. Some of their streets still have the nostalgia of being lit with gas street lamps. But, not only is South Orange rich in history, it is also rich in wonderful family restaurants in which the entire family can dine in the ambiance of their choosing.

A few of South Orange, New Jersey's wonderful family restaurants are:

1. Café Arugula

Located at 59 South Orange Ave., right in the heart of South Orange, Café Arugula is a chic New York style restaurant, with an atmosphere that is casual enough for the comfort of the whole family.

For the special times, there is a formal dining room in the rear; and kids love the old fashioned ice cream counter.

Hours of operation are:

Monday - closed

Tuesday - Friday 11 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Sunday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

2. Café Caribe

Located at 74 1st St in South Orange. The cuisine here at Café Caribe is as diverse as the people of the islands, and gives you the enjoyment of such ethnic foods as Indian, Creole and Syrian-Lebanese; and of course they have Italian. Alcohol is not served here, but they have no problem with you bringing your own. They have many fruit juices to choose from.

Hours of operation are:

Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Friday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

3. Reservoir Restaurant

Located at 106 N. South Orange Ave. This is an Italian restaurant with really great pizza. Kids love Monday nights because it's "Create your own pizza" night.

Hours of operation are:

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Friday - 11:30 to 10:30

Saturday - 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Sunday - 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Closed Tuesday

A family could get by spending less than $30.00.

4. Toro Loco

Located at 23 Valley St. in South Orange. The cuisine here is Mexican, and even though they do serve alcohol, it is still very comfortable, and family oriented establishment.

The lunch menus are $10.00 and less, with combo plates at $7.95, and the dinners costing about $15.00 and less.

5. Appian Way

This restaurant is named for the Old Roman Road, and it has the same ambiance. Located at 619 Langdon St in Orange New Jersey.

Kids love the dinner theatre and ice sculptures.

With cost of $30.00 and under, it is the perfect place to take the family.
