Family Reunions

Phylis

Reunions should be happy times

When family comes together

To talk and laugh and reminisce

And moan about the weather

But sometimes it is mournful

When families reunite

They talk about the empty chairs

And moan about their plight

We had our first reunion

After Dad had passed away

Our fragile hearts still broken

Our moods were dark and gray

Mom sat at the table

Too tired to sit up straight

Or deafened by the quiet

That Dad's absence resonates

But we continued through the day

With hollow, empty hearts

Haunted by old memories

Sharing pain that they impart

Some reunions are celebrations

Some a mere necessity

No doubt that we regain our strength

Through the love of family

It seems lately the only family reunions we have are at funerals.

A very compassionate poem about the undying love of a family. Five stars for writing such a piece.
