When my daughter and I signed up for the Family Service Program at PAWS, located at 1991 North Clybourn in Chicago's DePaul neighborhood, I was excited that we would be volunteering together and that she would get to learn about important issues concerning animals such as animal rights, homelessness, puppy mills and the important of having pets spayed and neutered.

She loves cats and dogs, and I thought this would be a great opportunity for her to not only learn about their care, but also interacting with them and helping care for them. She learned a lot from the spay/neuter lecture and wanted to make sure that our own two dogs were spayed and neutered. They are.

When we fist got there, I think my daughter was a little overwhelmed at all the goings on, and the large number of animals that were there. After only the first session, which goes from 9 a.m. until 11.00 a.m., she quickly started to become more excited about the program. Listening to her talk to her friends about important animal issues that she learned at Paws through the program made me feel that she really was interested in the cause and was proud that she was involved in the program.
