For families to gather
Sharing the fruits of harvest's bountiful platter
The leaves have all changed
And the weather's turned colder
It signals the holidays are right around the corner
Every guest brings a dish to share
Each one a delectable treat
For all of us to gobble up, and eat, and eat, and eat
Mom always makes her famous scalloped corn
I don't think without it
They'd let her in the door
Aunt Kim makes the turkey
With stuffing and all the fixin's
And lets us trash her house- even the lil' chitlins
Cousin Jill brings the wine
And good stories too
Without her there, we'd all be blue (as well as thirsty too!)
Grandma always makes her pumpkin pie
And helps with the piles of dishes a mile high
After we've all had our fill and the meal subsides
When it comes to me; I like to surprise,
I'm the wildcard of the group
You never know what I might bring (for sure not cold soup!)
Our family gatherings are always a hoot
The house fills with laughter,
And sometimes singing to boot
The love and kinship
We share as a family unit
Means more than any treasure could bring (though we sure could use it!)
Whatever we bring, and before we dig in
We always start with bowed heads and pray
A special "thank you" to God for all our blessings on Thanksgiving Day.
Thanks for reading and have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Great poem, although it does make me a bit hungry...
What time should I be there? Sounds great.
Aw, how sweet. Sort of a poem version of a Norman Rockwell painting! :)
