While Halloween used to be more about kids going out trick or treating, while warmly dressed parents followed nearby as chaperones, today's families are celebrating Halloween together.
Nowadays, Mom and Dad are dressing up too! Adult Halloween parties are common for all generations, and most employers sponsor a Halloween dress-up day at work. Families with small children and go to Halloween festivals, and everyone can wear a costume!
Many families find it fun to dress up with a group theme. To get started, consider some of these fun family Halloween costume ideas. The possibilities are endless, but these may help get the creative juices flowing!
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
This group costume idea is sort of specific, as it requires a family of Mom, Dad, and two kids- one of which should probably be a girl- who will all spend Halloween together. If this is your set up however, it could be a super fun idea. Mom, Dad, and Baby (younger child) would each need a bear costume. Goldilocks would wear a frilly dress and curly blonde wig, unless of course she is blonde and mom is good with a curling iron.
Snow White and her dwarves - Perfect for a large family
This costume idea is great for flexibility. If Dad will not be around for Halloween, mom and the kids should be able to pull this one off anyway. If Dad will be around, then he gets to be the prince! Even if you don't have quite seven dwarves, you could enlist the help of neighborhood kids, or you could always say in a sweet, high-pitched voice, "Sleepy and Dopey are home with the sniffles!"
The Addams Family
This family Halloween costume idea works best for a family that has at least mom, dad, son, and daughter. Mom gets a super sexy Morticia costume, Dad gets to draw on the fun moustache (unless of course, he wants to grow it!), and the kids to be Wednesday and Pugsley. The idea could be expanded to include Lurch, Cousin It, and Uncle Fester, should extended family members want to join in the fun.
Fred, Wilma, and Pebbles Flintstone
Mom, dad, and toddler daughter could make this family Halloween costume idea the favorite of the party! What perfect prehistoric family wouldn't want to dress baby girl up as cutie pie Pebbles? If you know another family with a little boy, you could make them go as the Rubbles!
The Osbournes!
For a fun family with older children, dressing up as the Osbournes could be a hoot! If your kids think you are really cool, they might even go for the idea of watching mom and dad could be Ozzy and Sharon. Teenage girls could really have fun with Kelly, but it might take a pretty confident male to dress up like her brother.
Aladdin and Jasmine with Abu or Rajah or both
For this family Halloween costume, mom and dad are Aladdin and Jasmine (this does involve showing some skin, so you might want to be in good shape to pull this off), and the little ones get to be the animals. A baby boy would make a cute monkey, Abu. A preschool boy or girl in a tiger costume can be Rajah! If you have a grandpa who wants to get in on the action, he can be the Sultan.
Blue Man Group
This is probably the easiest Halloween costume ever, but it will definitely be obvious. No one will ask, "What are you supposed to be?" Make sure to buy a lot of blue face paint, and then just wear all black. Cover every bit of showing skin in blue paint. To go all the way with this, you could buy bald caps and spray paint them blue, or simply just buy blue hair spray. Kids of any gender and age can do this one, so it is super flexible.
Bee Keeper and bees
This Halloween costume would work well for a single parent family. The parent gets to be the bee keeper, and all the little ones can be the bees. This can make for some fun drama, as the kids can run around yelling, "No, don't take my honey!"
The Claus Family
Who says you can't have Christmas at Halloween? Mom and Dad get to be Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and the little ones can be elves or reindeer.
The Incredibles
The favorite super hero family would make for a fun family Halloween costume idea that everyone would enjoy! All of the costumes are available online at Disney's Halloween Booootique.
The Peter Pan Characters
Depending on the make-up of your family, there are several ways this one could go. Mom and Dad could be Peter Pan and Wendy. If you have a little girl, she can be Tinkerbell. Little boys can be the Lost Boys, or they could be pirates. Someone could even be the crocodile.
The Wizard of Oz
This would work well for a family with two little boys. Mom and Dad can be Dorothy and the Scarecrow, while the little ones can be "Cowardly Lion" and "Tin Man." The costumes could be made at home, or some could be purchased. Either way, it's unique and fairly easy.

Well everyone knows the Brady Bunch, we all go as the BEATTY BUNCH... lol My mom and dad play Mike and Carol, My Grandmother is Alice, Grandpa Plays Sam the Butcher, and Me and all my ADULT brothers and Sister (in-laws too) go as all the kids.... Its fun for a B~I~G family and you don't have to fight with the Siblings (grown or not you still argue about it... lol) you go as the person next in age. The oldest is Jane then Marcia then Cindy... It's always fun to wear 70's clothes anyway.... Have a Happy Halloween All.........
My husband had the cutest idea for our family but it wasn't glamourous enough for our six-year-old daughter...Goldilocks and the three bears. I would be mamma bear, he would be pappa bear, and our one-year-old daughter would be the baby bear. I think it would be super cute and pretty easy to pull off.
