These simple family tree Christmas ornaments are simple and affordable craft project that the kids can make to help decorate the tree this year. These simple ornaments also teach the kids about their family tree and past family members!

To Make These Family Tree Christmas Ornaments You Will Need:

Christmas Tree Cookie Cutter
Photos of Your Family Members
Scissors
Exacto Knife
Card Stock or Construction Paper or Cardboard
Pencil
Hot Glue or White Glue
Black Ink Pen or Fine Sharpie Marker
Whole Punch
Christmas Ribbon

OK, so I like to use brown cardboard for this project, but card stock or even constructing paper will work!

Now, trace out 2 Christmas trees for each family member. Cut them out with scissors.

Now, draw out a circle in the middle of one of the Christmas tree shapes. Use the exact knife to cut out the circle. Smaller kids may need help with this!

Now, cut your family members photo down to size and glue it behind this hole with their face showing through. Now, run a bead of glue along the back of this tree around the edge. Place the second tree on the back to make it more finished.

Now, use the black pen or fine Sharpie market to write the first and last name of the family member and their birthday.

Use the hole punch to punch a hole through the top of the tree.

Insert the Christmas ribbon and tie it in loop through the hole. This will be how t family tree ornament hangs on the tree.

Tips or Ideas:

You can have the kids use watercolor to paint the family tree ornament if they use cardboard. Watercolor in moderation looks great on these trees!

You can also add other embellishments like glitter. Imply run a bead of white glue on the front t edge of the family tree ornament. Then sprinkle on t glitter. You can knock off any excess!

Other shapes also work great for this simple Christmas ornament craft project. Angles, Santa Heads, and even Bells are all great shapes. Look for a shape that allows for enough room to ct out the photograph hole.

If you don't want to punch a hole for the ornament hook, you could glue the ribbon inside of the two pieces. Just cut a 6 inch piece of Christmas ribbon. Insert each end into the middle and allow the glue to dry. You have a loop!

These simple family tree ornaments can also be spray painted if they are made out of cardboard or wood.

These simple family tree Christmas ornaments also make a great gift. Have the kids box them up and put some shredded tissue paper under them. Tie it shut with a beautiful ribbon and you are set!!
