Family Vacation Ideas when Traveling in a Motor Home

Mudslinger
If you are like me, you have grown bored with the theme parks, not to mention the expense, in Orlando, Florida. Here are a few ideas that have been fun-filled and educational for our family. We travel in a camper, which opens a whole new world of travel. If you don't have a camper, one can be rented from almost any RV salesperson. Prices vary, but it will average out to about the same as a week in Orlando. These are just our experiences, and we are not a travel agent.

Number 1: If you enjoy Florida then try a trip down Florida Highway 101. You can pick up Highway 101 in Jacksonville, Florida. As you head south you will be able to view miles of beaches. There are many places to park and enjoy the beach at your leisure. You will be passing through several small towns that offer the traveler sights and services. Make sure you plan a day or two stop in the oldest city St. Augustine, Florida. The shops and sights are well worth a two day stop. From here continue south and visit Daytona Beach, the home of the first NASCAR race.

Number 2: From Atlanta, Georgia head North on Interstate 75. Make sure when you get to Calhoun, you exit and follow the signs to Echota. This is the location of the first Cherokee Indian Capitol. There is a great museum showing the life of the Cherokee Nation. Back on I-75 North your next stop should be Chattanooga, Tn. Here you can find several battlefields and museums concerning the War Between the States. There are monuments for every group of soldiers that fought here both North and South. After a day or two here take Interstate 24 to Nashville, Tn. Not only the home of Country Music but also on of the top cities for Barbecue.

Number 4: From Denver, Colorado take Interstate 70 West. In a very short time you will begin the climb to the top of the Rockey Mountains. A sharp eye will spot Buffalo, Elk and Deer in the high valleys along side of the Interstate. Once you reach Eisenhower Memorial Tunnel you are almost at the top where you can see for miles. Looking at one snow peak after another it makes you wonder how people going west ever got the covered wagons through these mountains. The hardships they must have suffered. Going on down the mountain you pass through several quaint little towns. Looking closely at the sides of the mountains and one can see old gold mines doting the landscape. Soon you will be seeing the first signs for the world famous city of Vail, Co. Known around the world for snow skiing. As you continue on West the landscape is one surprising view after another. Watching for Elk and Deer is rewarding with the number of animals you will see. Especially in the mornings and late afternoon. I-70 will take you to Grand Junction, Co. Take some time to explore the older part of the city and make time to visit the museum on Colorado history.

These are just four ideas, if they help you plan a vacation, then I am glad I could help. I have more ideas on the subject because after thirty-five years of traveling this beautiful country there aren't mant places I havent been.
