Helton Creek Falls
Just off US 19 about a mile south of Vogel State Park, you will find Helton Creek Falls. It's a short walk from the parking area to the lower falls. Be sure to bring swimsuits as children will enjoy wading in the pool at the bottom. Continue up the path to the observation deck which faces the upper falls.
Dukes Creek Falls
Not far from Helton Creek Falls on Richard Russell Scenic Highway, you'll find Dukes Creek Falls. A boardwalk forms the early part of the trail, which then switches to a wide path through the woods. The trail is a little steep, but it's relieved by three switchbacks. Once you reach the bottom, you'll find three observation decks offering a nice view of the approximately 200 foot high waterfall. For those that don't wish to make the entire hike, there's an observation deck about 0.1 mile from the parking area which offers a distant view of the falls.
Raven Cliff Falls
Just down the road from Dukes Creek Falls, you will find Raven Cliff Falls. Due to the length (6 miles round trip) and a couple steep spots on the trail, this probably isn't suitable for young children, but older children will enjoy this. Pets are allowed on a leash. The trail follows Dodd Creek, passing several smaller waterfalls as it leads up to Raven Cliff Falls. If you're feeling adventurous, you can climb to the top of the falls for a beautiful overlook. Be sure to take a picnic along as you will enjoy picnicking on the large rocks facing the falls.
Anna Ruby Falls
Near Helen in Unicoi State Park, you'll find Anna Ruby Falls, a rare double waterfall. There is a small fee for parking, but it's more than worth it. The trail from the parking lot to the falls is less than a mile round trip. The trail is paved and can be a little steep, but there are plenty of benches along the path to rest. Interpretive markers add to your enjoyment of the trail.
Desoto Falls
Just north of Dahlonega is Desoto Falls. Legend has it that Spanish armor belonging to Hernando Desoto or one of his men was found near here. Trails lead to 2 separate waterfalls. About 0.3 miles downstream from the trailhead, you will find the lower falls. Or take the trail 0.75 miles upstream for the upper falls.
As you can see, there are several family-friendly waterfall hikes available in north Georgia. Don't forget your camera because you will definitely want pictures of these waterfalls.
