Family-Friendly New Year's Eve Celebrations in Your City

L.L. Woodard
It's likely that there is a family-friendly venue close to you for a New Year's Eve celebration. The following are lists of just such celebrations going on in various areas of the nation:

Oklahoma City

In a city that demonstrates the value it places on the family unit, the celebration to attend on New Year's Eve this year, as in each year since 1987, for you and your family is Opening Night 2009. This celebration will begin at 7 PM December 31, 2008 and continue until midnight. There should be something to enjoy for each member of the family, including music, theater, dancing and a fireworks display.

This all takes place in downtown Oklahoma City, among several venues. A wrist band purchase permits entry into the celebration and enjoyment throughout the area. Wrist bands purchased prior to New Year's Eve are $8/person; purchased at the event, the wrist band price will be $10/person. This is a non-alcoholic beverage event.

Opening Night 2009 is sponsored by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City.

Williamsburg, Virginia

First Night Williamsburg is the family-friendly celebration to attend for those living in that area. Activities for this celebration begin at 5 PM December 31, 2008 and are scheduled right up until 11:45 PM. Activities at the Matthew Whaley School, designated at First Night for kids, begin at 3 PM. The multiple venues are located in downtown Williamsburg with all performance taking place indoors.

More than 60 acts are scheduled, taking place on 41 stages in 24 of Williamsburg's most beautiful historic buildings. There'll be magicians, puppeteers, singers, dancers, storytellers, clowns and more.

And what New Year's Eve celebration would be complete without fireworks! This is a non-alcoholic beverage event.

This truly is an event that has something for everyone, regardless of age or interests. Children under 5 may attend free of charge; for all others, admission is $12/person for admission purchased through December 30, $15/person if purchased December 31. Food and beverages available for purchase at the celebration are extra.

Admission buttons may be purchased on-line and additional information is available here:
