FamilyZip is a forum that allows parents and grandparents to share tips and information about a wide range of topics. One of the organization's goals, according to the press release, is to help parents and other caregivers make choices about which advice and activities are the best. The organization publishes a variety of advice and ideas that other families have tried and recommend. According to FamilyZip, they offer help that is applicable for both families with small babies as well as those with school age and teenage children. There is also a section about pregnancy and adoption for those who are considering parenthood or about to become parents.
The press release states that one of the benefits of the forum is the download entitled the "Top Tips from Real Moms & Dads Guide". Some of the other categories FamilyZip provides advice about are: Classes and Lessons (Homework), Family Finance, Food and Dining, Groups and Community, Family Travel, Health and Fitness, and Marriage and Relationships. Users also can create a page for their family and share pictures, as well. Families can "select their region" when accessing the activity information. FamilyZip offers free access and also an opportunity for users to add a Google Ad-Sense account an earn royalties for their tips. Links to other related blogs or sites is encouraged.
According to the press release, FamilyZip... "helps busy Moms and Dads get the information they need in a zip and saves them time". A quote from the ABC story attributes that statement to Stacey Sao, who is chief community officer of FamilyZip and she states that the above statement is the mission of the organization.
The FamilyZip organization states they have plans for a "Family Friendly Seal". The seal will be issued to websites and organizations that meet qualifications for "family-friendliness" established by FamilyZip. One of the qualifications will be the "ability to accommodate families with children of all ages". Renee Gelin, a middle school math teacher and mother of three states, "FamilyZip is like having a hundred sisters and brothers in town, giving me the inside scoop on where to go, what to do, and what to see. I've never been disappointed when I've followed up on a tip I read on FamilyZip."
