Washington Irving was born in New York City in 1783. He became known as the first person to make a living from writing. While taking a driving tour on Route 9, stop by the Washington Irving Sunnyside home. The Sunnyside home is located right off Route 9. You can tour the home with a guide. While taking a driving tour on Route 110, turn off on Old Whitman Road and stop by the historic home of Walt Whitman. The Walt Whitman home is surrounded by a beautiful wooden fence. This site is beautiful. You can tour the site Monday - Sunday. They are closed on major holidays. The cost is $4 for adults and $3 for children.
