Famous Breastfeeding Mommas

Breastfeeding is the hottest trend among celebrity mommas. Okay so maybe it isn't the hottest trend, but there are an offal lot of "hot" celebs who are saying no to formula and yes to the breast.

Although we will never see celebrities like Kevin James nursing, his wife reportedly wouldn't mind it. According to the Celebrity Baby Blog, Kevin James told them, "My wife does the breastfeeding, thank God. It's awkward because at night the baby will sleep with us and my wife will leave in the middle of the night right after the breastfeeding and the baby's still hungry and she'll roll over and just look at me. I'm like, 'No, no. These don't function.' She doesn't believe me. She's just looking at me like, 'If you don't want to give me any, that's fine. Those are bigger than mom's."

Celebrity mommas know that breastfeeding has it's benefits. Breastfeeding your babe gets you back to your pre-baby weight by burning an average of 500 calories a day. That is 3500 calories, or a whole pound a week. In Hollywood it is all about being slim and trim. Sure celebs can hire the best trainers, but why not add an extra calorie burn to your day by nursing.

Celebrity moms include, but are not limited to: Tori Amos, Maggie Gyllenhall, Pamela Anderson, Erykah Badu, Christie Brinkley, Katie Couric, Cindy Crawford, Celine Dion, Jodie Foster, Jennie Garth. Tipper Gore, Faith Hill, Madonna, Joan Lunden, Andie McDowell, Elle McPherson, Demi Moore, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tracy Pollan, Jane Seymour, Patricia Richardson, Holly Robinson Peete, Kelly Preston, Jada Pinkett Smith, Meryl Streep, Cheryl Swoopes, Uma Thurman, Rita Wilson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Not a bad list to be on.

One very outspoken celebrity mom, Tori Amos, is often quoted as saying that, "An ounce of breast milk is even more potent than the finest tequila." We all know what a punch tequila packs, and breastfeeding can have the same impact.

Another Tori, Tori Spelling also breast feeds her new born son Liam. Although Tori was quick to learn that breastfeeding alone will not return you to your post-baby body, the bonding experience with Liam, "just gets better and better each day."

Jillian Barberie is another famous mama who chose to breastfeed. She talks about her breastfeeding experience by saying, " It's going really, really well. And I'm breastfeeding, and nobody tells you...you get her and there's no manual, you don't know what the hell you're doing." Ues breastfeeding can be an overwhelming experience, but if the celebs can get the hang of it, so can you.

So take a page from the stars, breastfeeding is fast becoming the norm amongst hip mama everywhere. Breastfeed your baby if at all possible to enjoy a bonding experience that will never be found in a bottle.

Breast milk is truly an amazing thing- not only does it provide nourishment, but it also helps prepare a baby's immune system to protect against viruses and bacteria

Awesome article! I love that celebrities are turning to breastfeeding and setting such a positive example for new moms. Maggie Gyllenhall is my favorite for baring it in public to nurse her child -- she rocks!
