Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine
These sisters have the longest running feud in history. In July of 2010, actress Olivia de Havilland turned 94. Her younger sister, actress Joan Fontaine, is 93. The two have been at odds with each other since.1942. According to the Huffington Post, the two were still refusing to be in each other's company as recently as the 100th anniversary celebration of when the late Bette Davis was born, back in 2008.
In 1942, Olivia de Havilland was an established actress, finally up for an Academy Award. Little sister Joan had only recently made the foray into Hollywood, starting with Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca. In 1942 she was also nominated for an Academy Award for Hitchcock's Suspicion. Newcomer Joan won the award. Big sister Olivia didn't get hers until five years later.
The two should have been celebrating. They were the first sisters to be nominated for an Academy Award in the same year, and the first sisters to win Academy Awards. Instead, jealousy and resentment, possibly stemming from their early childhood, took over.
Dana Kristal and Lisa Kristal Burgman
While Dana and Lisa may not be so famous in their own right, their family is responsible for classic moments in musical history. Their parents, Karen and Hilly, were the owners of the legendary CBGB's nightclub in New York City. Lisa inherited the bulk of their late father's estate, leaving little to nothing for her brother and mother. Yet, she publicly has said greed is what killed the club. Bitter brother finds the whole thing ironic considering her wealth and manipulation of Hilly's estate to max out her inheritance. The two reportedly also battle over caring for their ailing mother.
Dane Cook and Darryl McCauley
Dane Cook has a naughty half-brother, Darryl McCauley. McCauley used to be Cook's business manager. He allegedly stole millions of dollars from Cook. He was arraigned in 2009. Prosecutors claim he forged a $3 million check, written to him from Dane. McCauley's wife Erica was also arrested on similar charges. The old adage still stands: Never do business with family!
Eric Roberts and Julia Roberts
Eric Roberts and Julia Roberts, though 10 years apart in age, were once upon a time quite close to each other. In fact, when Julia first moved out of her parents' house, she moved in with big brother Eric in New York City. The battle began over when Eric and his longtime girlfriend, Kelly, broke up, and the two were battling for custody of their daughter. Julia helped fund Kelly's legal defense for custody of their daughter. Their problems escalated with Eric's drug abuse.
Perhaps another root of the problem was Julia's immense success? When she moved to NYC to be with her brother, he had already been acting for some time. He claims to have even gotten her acting career started. While he has been at it longer, and has more roles under his belt, Julia is the one who is the household name.
The two reportedly continue to have a strained relationship, though they can be amicable these days. In fact, Eric's movie The Expendables opened against Julia's Eat Pray Love, and beat it in the rankings. Where Eric was once slamming Julia's performances in public, he now has only kind words about her work.
Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher
The Gallagher brothers were almost as famous for their public musical battles as they were for their hit rock band Oasis back in the 1990s. They repeatedly broke up, then got back together. According to Ace Show Biz, Liam yet again reignited the feud. They claim the band broke up for good in 2009 because the brothers refused to visit each other's children. Other battles have occurred over creative differences, disapproval over each other's general behavior, and general dislike of each other. Who knew they had even reunited?
