However, once upon a time you could only smoke a cigar if you were an upper class civilian and of course royalty where as today you can buy them from certain stores and online. By the 19th century there were many factories which were rolling and selling cigars to a huge client database, so you can imagine that the database has gotten even huger in today's time.
Tobacco for these cigars comes from Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Honduras and even East United States. By 1905, every state in the United States had a cigar-making factory and they were mostly family owned. Years of knowledge of rolling and selling cigars was passed down from family member to family member. One of the oldest famous family-making cigar factories is located in the Dominican Republic, the Leon Family who has been making the famous cigars, León Jimenes and La Aurora since 1905.
The cigar being a celebrated trend through-out history has led some of the most famous people to smoke it such as King Edward VII, Ulysses S. Grant, Sigmund Freud (who was known to smoke up to 20 a day), Winston Churchill, the talented Bill Cosby and many others.
Famous cigars have come from families all around the world and some of the most famous ones are very illegal in certain countries such as the Cuban Cigar in the United States. One of the best and most popular families to get famous cigars from is the Fuente Family who has passed their traditions down from year to year since 1916. In 1992, Cigar Aficionado introduced the Cigar Hall of Fame and released six famous cigar-making families to it.

Famous cigars come from all over the world and you do not have to live in royalty or high class to smoke some of the finest and more people are learning to cut loose and smoke a few to relax and have fun. However, to know the history of the cigar certainly gives it more flavor.
