1954 - Ted Williams fractures collarbone in 1st game of spring training after flying 39 combat missions without injury in Korean War

1632-1706 -Heino Heinrich Graf von Flemming was a German field marshal and Governor of Berlin
1747-1792 -Leopold II was the Holy Roman Emperor and king of Hungary, archduke of Austria and Grand Duke of Tuscany
1852-1911 -Jacobus H van 't Hoff was a Dutch chemist/physicist who received the 1st Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1901-physical chemistry
1842-1920 -John H. Bankhead was a U.S. Senator, Bankhead was instrumental in enacting the Federal Aid Road Act of 1916 which became the first federal highway funding legislation and the cross-country Bankhead Highway was named after him
1893-1963 - Irish Meusel was a Major League Baseball player who won two World Series, Irish Meusel played for the Washington Senators, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants and Brooklyn Robins and he was National League RBI Champion in 1923
1939-1980 -Wilhelmina Cooper, high-fashion model and owner of model agency who was one of the most famous models of the 50's and 60's, she was on the cover of 255 magazines, Cooper's agency played a major role in launching the career of Naomi Sims who was the first African-American Supermodel
1914-1984 -Jackie Coogan was an actor who began his career as a child actor, he later played Uncle Fester-Addams Family in the 60's
1988 -Joe Besser was a comedian actor who played parts in 3's Stooges and Abbott & Costello, he was also the maintenance man in The Joey Bishop Show
1909-1991 -Edwin H Land was the inventor of the Polaroid Camera and co-founder of the Polaroid Company
1908-1993 -Luis Kutner was the US co-founder of Amnesty International, he was also a US human rights activist and lawyer

As I was looking at the list I am reminded of my first softball glove - it had the name Ted Williams on it, I always looked at his name but never read about him - now I have no excuse!
