Famous Restaurants of Vadodara in Gujarat State in India

Vadodara is one of the most important cities of Gujarat State in India. It is full of many types of industries like petrochemicals, fertilizers, glass, and pharmaceuticals. The famous Gaikwad family ruled this city of Vadodara till India got the independence in the year 1947. The present population of the Vadodara city is around one and a half million people. There are people from all the religions and different areas of India, who have settled down here at Vadodara. As the nature of Vadodara is cosmopolitan, it is full of almost all types of restaurant that can offer many types of food delicacies. I have stayed in Vadodara for around 35 years of my life and hence, am fully familiar with most of the restaurants of this historical city.

Various types of food items are served in these restaurants at the rates, based upon the location, restaurants gradations, and the food items served by them. Let us start with authentic Gujarati food items. The most delicious Gujarati thali, consisting of around 37 items in all, is served by Hotel Express in Alkapuri, Hotel Sasuji again in Alkapuri, Hotel Kansar, Hotel Surya, both located in Sayajigunj area near the railway station, Hotel Aamantran, Hotel Sheel, Hotel Yuvraj near the bus depot, and Hotel Gaurav. All these thalis consists of around 4 varieties of vegetables, three farsan items, three sweet items, and all types of rotis like hot chapattis, Biscuit Bhkhris, and the bajri/corn rotlas. The two varieties of rice along with the dal in two varieties are also served in such thali. Many types of salads, prickles, chutneys, and the cold buttermilk also form part of such thali. All the items served are unlimited in quantity. Can you imagine all these items served at the rate of only around Rs.100 ($2.50) to Rs.120 ($3.0)? The elders generally prefer such thalis. The main choice of the youngsters is to enjoy various types of buffets served lavishly in the hotel restaurants. Such buffets consist of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. The most famous buffet lunch is served at Hotel Express, Hotel Sayaji, Hotel Surya, Hotel Surya Palace, Hotel Revival, Hotel Welcome International, and Hotel Holiday Inn. Such buffets offer limitless items in almost all the varieties with 3 to 4 types of soups served in the beginning with suitable appetizers, and 3 to 4 deserts like ice cream, Gulab jamuns, puddings, cakes, fruit salad, and the famous Indian Rasmalai. Such buffets cost in the range of around Rs.300 ($7.50) to Rs.400 ($10) per person. Some of these hotels also serve the royal breakfast buffets in the morning hours till around 10 am at the rate of around Rs.160 ($4.0) to Rs.250 ($6.10) per person. Some of the restaurants like Hotel Kalyan, Hotel Dawat, Hotel Alka, and Hotel Rangoli are famous for their authentic Punjabi food items, which are served on e la Carte basis. If you are interested in trying delicious south Indian food delicacies, Hotel Woodland, Hotel Gurudev, and the Madras Café are the best options.

If you want to have USA type of food items, the Pizza hut, Pizzeria, and the US Pizza are at your service. If you want nice sandwiches, Subway is available for you. If somebody is fond of Italian thin crust pizzas, pastas and the soups, Hotel Pizza Meo in Sayagigunj area awaits you. The famous Italian buffet of Hotel Pizza Meo is very popular amongst the young generation of Vadodara. The fast food restaurants like Hotel Kalyan, Hotel Chatpata are also quiet good in fast food varieties. Over and above these well-established and slightly expensive restaurants, there are many cheap options also available at Racecource, University campus area, and the Sardar Patel circle in Sayajigunj area in the form of mobile restaurants on the carts. Such mobile restaurants serve all types of food items at very economical rates. The dinner per person in such restaurants can cost as low as Rs.30 (75 cents) per person for full meal. It may be noted that most of the famous and luxury restaurants are situated on the Western Side of the River Vishwamitri. This part of the city is new city area. There is no end to this list of restaurants serving most delicious food items in almost all types of combinations and suitable to all kinds of pockets. If one starts visiting the authentic restaurants of Vadodara city one by one, he may take around one full year to come back again at the same restaurant.

I am really so amazed at the types of food items served in this cultural city of India that I have made it a point to visit Vadodara at least once in year to enjoy most of them in the company of my friends and relatives with whom I have enjoyed my life for 35 years.
