Fancy by Jessica Simpson: A Perfume Review

The Pen
A couple of weeks ago I received a bottle of Fancy by Jessica Simpson Perfume as a gift.

Fancy is a pale pink perfume that comes in a super cute bottle. The glass bottle has a decorative script scrawled all over it and its top is a pale pink globe. I really like the bottle's design it's slightly over the top and looks fancy and feminine.

Macy's describes Fancy as "feminine, sensual, flirtatious, and memorable. Its red carpet ready while maintaining the subtle flirtatious charm of the enticing girl next door."

The top notes in Fancy by Jessica Simpson are fruity. It includes pear, apricot nectar, with red berries thrown in. The middle notes are for floral lovers and gourmands, they include gardenia, night blooming jasmine, and toasted almonds & caramel. And the base notes are made of sandalwood, vanilla, and amber.

I have to admit that I'm usually a very difficult person to buy perfumes for.

For the most part I only like Oriental fragrances. I can stomach floral perfumes on other women, but I hate them on me. I absolutely loathe wearing any perfume that smells even remotely like a typical flower (I can always detect even the slightest hint of one) and most mainstream fragrances that are targeted towards women are florals.

I consider Fancy to be a Floriental because it has a mixture of both florals like gardenia and jasmine, mixed with the oriental flavors of amber and vanilla. So one hand it smells great to me, and on the other hand it doesn't.

This Jessica Simpson perfume is very interesting though. I really enjoyed how Fancy started off with a bang, the top notes gives off a burst of tartness which I attribute to the pear and the red berries. It makes the perfume smell fresh, fun & youthful.

But the top notes, quickly fade into the middle notes which last longer. Unfortunately the tartness fades into a floral fragrance which I truly can't stand.

The gardenias and jasmine were the only things I smelled for around 30 minutes, but when they started to soften, I could make out the sweet scent of the almonds. I really couldn't detect the caramel notes, but once the stronger flowery scent faded a bit the middle note was quite pleasant for me. There was a hint of tartness left over from the top notes, and I thought the florals added a bit of freshness that blended well with the almonds and maybe even the caramel.

This layer smells sweet, tart, and powdery all at once. But it doesn't smell cheap & tacky or super girly like other sugary fragrances do. I think the floral layer gives Fancy a bit of sophistication, and makes it smell... well, quite fancy.

All of the notes blend into the final layer, about an hour or so after spritzing on Fancy. This layer is my favorite because it has the Oriental notes. It's slightly sweet because of the vanilla but it mostly has a warm, powdery, sensual smell that I adore.

In the End...

Despite the fact that I hate florals I have to say that I actually really like Fancy by Jessica Simpson. I just think the ingredients were well chosen and they make a great fragrance that I haven't smelled before.

It's fresh, youthful, sweet, fun, sophisticated, sensual and comforting all at once. I think it's a perfume that can be worn when you are feeling flirty or glamorous. And I think the sweetness allows Fancy to be worn year-round, but I feel it is best suited to the fall and spring months.

Even though I like Fancy by Jessica Simpson it just isn't for me because of the strong floral presence. However I think it smells fantastic on my mom so I'll probably give this bottle away to her.

Despite my picky tastes, I think most women would love this scent, it is very lovely. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. A 1.7oz bottle is $49.
