Fan's take: Favorites to win 2011 PGA Championship

Lisa Mason

It's anybody's guess who will win the PGA Championship this year. All signs might point in one direction only to have us experience a complete upset in the game plan for a winner out of nowhere. There are a lot of great players in the lineup this year and golf is such a finicky game. Just when you think you have it all figured out, one thing can go wrong (or right) and completely turn it around.

Still, it's fun to guess who you think might win.

Here are my top five favorites to win the 2011 PGA Championship:

Rory McIlroy

Many are saying he's ready for his second major victory. I'd love nothing more than to see Rory McIlroy take home another win this season, with the PGA Championship title. Rory has captured the hearts of many fans and this is his chance to shine once more and go for two majors in one season.

Luke Donald

Luke Donald is looking for his first major win and this could be the year and the event to do it for him. He's a solid golfer and this could be the event for him to take home that major win finally. All three of the majors so far this season have produced a first-time winner. Will the PGA Championship be the same?

Jason Day

Day has moved his way into the top-10 this season and his hard work is not going unnoticed. He has even admitted before that changing the way he practices makes a big difference in his game. Here's hoping we see that difference in the PGA Championship as he has a good chance to win if he keeps playing to his full potential.

Gary Woodland

Woodland has really made a name for himself this season as he climbed from 959th in the world to 40th in the world in just a year. His potential is reaching an all-time high, and I expect good things from him at the PGA Championship as well. I'd certainly be happy if he took home the title.

Nick Watney

Watney has been making huge improvements in his game this season. He and his coach worked on tightening up his swing and he has found his way into the top-10. I predict very good things to come from him and I wouldn't be surprised to see him break a win or at least a top-five finish at the PGA Championship.
