Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel Review

The Pen
I am African American and I used to chemically relax my hair for most of my life, but a couple of years ago I decided to go natural. I'd never styled natural hair so I had no clue which products to use on my kinky and coarse texture so I read different reviews and found that a lot of natural girls liked a product by Fantasia IC called Hair Polisher Styling Gel.

I remember seeing a picture of a girl who used the Hair Polisher to create soft ringlets and she stated that the gel was amazing for helping to define her kinks and curls.

I'd tried a product years ago by Fantasia IC when I still used a relaxer and I didn't like it, but after seeing a lot of rave reviews I decided to go on and buy the Hair Polisher Styling Gel. I paid around $5 for a huge 16oz jar.

The gel contains water, glycerin, aloe leaf juice, wheat protein, dimethicone and other long named chemical ingredients. Fantasia IC claims that the Hair Polisher "gives great body, manageability, and shine," and that it's "great for blow-drying," "it smooths curly hair for a more natural look," and it "defies gravity and holds up styles all day."

I used the Fantasia IC Hair Polisher a few days later on wet hair. I found that the clear gel had a really thick texture. But it smelled good, it has a tropical scent that's lovely. It smoothed my coarse strands instantly and took away the frizz so my curls and kinks became defined easily.

I made sure to coat each section so that I could define them and I was really pleased with the results until it dried. The gel defined my curls, but it was too heavy and smothering, so once each section dried it looked rather dull and lifeless. It felt soft but it was kind of stiff and didn't feel natural so I didn't care to use the gel on my whole head anymore, and I'd never use it to blow-dry my hair it would leave too much build-up.

Instead I began to use the Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel to smooth and combat frizz along the edges of my hairline. And I don't think it's as effective as other gels I've used before.

My hair is thick but my edges are much thinner and even though this gel is thick and heavy it really doesn't have a strong hold. So I always have to wet my edges before I use this gel to make it easier to apply and hold my curls down, and it doesn't last a full day.

Even though the label claims that the Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel is flake-free I've noticed that if I use it a few days in a row, it totally flakes and it looks like I have a dandruff problem along my hairline.

In the End...

I was underwhelmed by the Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Gel. I only use it because I don't want to waste this huge jar.

Its best attributes are that it does define curls and coils, reduces frizz, and helps soften coarse strands slightly. But the suffocating and dulling build-up it leaves isn't worth it for me. After I'm done with it I'm going back to using a more watery hair gel with a firmer hold.
