Fantastic Organic Food Entrees from the Frozen Aisle

Richelle Hawks
Oh, what would I have done for all these healthy, vegetarian and organic food choices in the supermarket aisles a couple decades ago? Not only are there many full-scale natural foods grocery stores now, like Whole Foods/Wild Oats, but larger named mainstream supermarkets have moderate to extensive natural and organic food sections.

One of the benefits of this growing market is the huge array and availability of frozen food entrees. The health conscious wishing for quick comfort food no longer must compromise their food morals among the aisles of the ruling class: Swanson's, Hungry Man, Lean Cuisine.

There are many healthy choices for, free of chemicals, additives, coloring, and other unhealthy ingredients. Below are my tried and true suggestions for the best organic food frozen meals.

Amy's Kitchen: Cheese Enchiladas

These cheese enchiladas simply do not taste like they could possibly be a frozen food entrée. They have a "restaurant taste" and are absolutely decadent and wonderful.

Amy's Kitchen: Veggie Loaf

This is a great, filling whole meal. It's uncommon in the sense that it has a lovely little paradox with taste; there's a comforting sense of a traditional retro "TV dinner" idea going on, with the mashed potatoes, peas and veggies, and veggie "meat", but the quality far surpasses anything conventional.

Amy's Kitchen: Mac 'n Cheese and Pot Pies

Several varieties, including vegan; all are excellent. The ultimate comfort food.

Gardenburger: BBQ Riblets

This isn't technically a frozen meal, but all that's really required for it to become one is a good whole grain bun. The riblets come in individual packets with the sauce contained , which can be easily boiled or microwaved. These riblets may have the most authentic meat texture and taste of any vegetarian faux meat product I have ever tried-and I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years. The sauce is fabulous-perfectly smoky and sweet, and there's plenty of it. As stated above, these are great plain on a bun, or dressed up with veggies.

Ethnic Gourmet: Pad Thai with Tofu

This is certainly the hands down best frozen or grocery store pad thai dish anywhere, with a high quality, restaurant taste.

All the above choices are common brands, and easily found in most supermarket natural foods' frozen section.

Most of Amy's frozen dinner's are better than any frozen meal I've tried. I'm not a vegetarian but it is nice to take a break from meat meals and these are filling, tasty and calorie/portion controlled. Perfect lunch!

You've inspired me to try the Amy's products. I'm trying to eat healthier, but I hate tofu, I find it disgusting. I have to admit I'm almost afraid of some vegetarian foods, like the fake meats. But cheese enchiladas, what's not to love?

Thx for the personal votes for these items. I had tried Amy's mac and cheese and garden burgers but not the other suggestions.
