1) Alex Rodriguez (New York Yankees) - A-Rod was clearly the best hitter and player in baseball statistically in 2007. He's the MVP of the American League and every fantasy league. He was miles ahead of anybody else. In my fantasy league he put up almost 100 points more than the next best hitter. That's what happens when you hit 54 HR's, score 143 runs and have 156 RBI's. A-Rod also hit .314, had and OBP of .422 and SLG .645. Monster season. Remember when people used to debate who was the best fantasy hitter A-Rod or Pujols? No debate in 2007. While he was a bust in the playoffs for the Yankees, he helped many fantasy owners to championships because fantasy season ends before the real playoffs begin.
2) Matt Holliday (Colorado Rockies) - been improving every year and really exploded in 2007. 36 HR's, 137 RBI's and 120 runs scored with a .340 average, .405 OBP and .607 SLG. Big reason the Rockies made the playoffs and the World Series. He also helped many fantasy owners to reach the playoffs and win their own championships.
3) David Ortiz (Boston Red Sox) - Big Papi produced another big season for his fantasy owners. He went 35 HR's/ 117 RBI's/ 116 runs/ .332 average/ .445 OBP and .621 SLG. Carried Red Sox and many fantasy owners right into the playoffs.
4) Magglio Ordonez (Detroit Tigers) - went 28 HR's/ 139 RBI's/ 117 runs/ .363 avg/ .434 OBP and .595 SLG. Could not get Tigers to the post-season but helped many of his fantasy owners get there.
5) Jimmy Rollins (Philadelphia Phillies) - really helped his team this year as they finally caught and passed the Mets on the last day of the regular season to make the playoffs. He shot off his mouth at the start of the season and backed it up with a great year. But Rollins stats are as much a product of his playing everyday as he had 716 at bats in 2007. As a fantasy owner though you want someone who can produce and play everyday on your team especially a SS.
6) Prince Fielder (Milwaukee Brewers) - hit like his dad, Cecil. 50 HR's as a 23 year old is very impressive.
7) Ryan Howard (Philadelphia Phillies) - last year's fantasy MVP slips to 7th this year. Missed almost a month with an injury or he'd be ranked higher.
8) David Wright (New York Mets) - great year again, especially considering the home park he plays in. Faded some at the end again for the 2nd year in a row.
9) Carlos Pena (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) - monster season by this guy. Hit 46 HR's and SLG .627. Waiver wire pick up of the year.
10) Hanley Ramirez (Florida Marlins) - rounds out the top ten barely beating out Grady Sizemore, Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Lee and the surprising Curtis Granderson.
Top Fantasy Hitters Per At Bat
1) A-Rod - 1.39 points per at bat
2) Carlos Pena - 1.32 Not that far behind A-Rod.
3) Ortiz - 1.28
4) Howard - 1.26
5) Jim Thome - 1.21 Injuries plagued him.
6) Fielder - 1.18
7) Adam Dunn - 1.17 Hit 40 HR's again.
7) Chipper Jones - 1.17 If he could just play everyday.
7) Ordonez - 1.17
10) Holliday - 1.13
Top Fantasy Rookie Hitters
1) Troy Tulowitzki (Colorado Rockies) - went 24 HR's/ 99 RBI's/ 104 runs/ .291 avg/ .359 OBP and .480 SLG. Great rookie year, should win the top rookie award in the National League and he was the top rookie in fantasy baseball in 2007.
2) Ryan Braun (Milwaukee Brewers) - not that far behind Tulowitzki he was actually much more productive per at bat: 1.09 vs .910 for Tulowitzki. If he had played all year and had as many at bats as Tulowitzki he'd be the top fantasy rookie.
3) Chris B. Young (Arizona Diamondbacks) - fine rookie year but below the top two. Put up .845 points per at bat.
4) Delmon Young (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) - well behind the top three he put up .697 points per at bat in 2007. But he played everyday putting him ahead of those with higher per at bat totals.
Other Top Rookies Per At Bat
Josh Hamilton - 1.00 points per at bat. Seasoned derailed by injuries.
James Loney - .913 Hits in tough park.
Hunter Pence - .887 Might be a good one.
Josh Fields - .886 Tore it up last month of season.
Kevin Kouzmanoff - .845 Good stats in tough park.
Dustin Pedroia - .802 Solid play helped Sox to playoffs.
Akinori Iwamura - .761 Japanese import posted unimpressive stats.
