2010 San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Football Picks

QB: Alex Smith looks like he is finally coming into his own. He was given a second chance last year and seemed to embrace it with a good second half of the season. I still don't think Smith is going to have a breakout year, but he will be solid. He's got enough weapons around him to help take the pressure off of him. I would feel confident taking him in the middle rounds.

RB: Frank Gore is a fantasy owners dream that easily warrants a first round pick. The 49ers upgraded their line in bit through the draft and should be able to open up even more holes for Gore. Michael Crabtree will take even more attention away from Gore. I expect him to have another year with over 1,000 yards and around 8-10 touchdowns.

WR: After missing the first 5 games of the season with contract issues, Michael Crabtree proved to be worth the money. He finished with 48 catches for 625 yards last year, while only playing in 11 games. Look for Crabtree to come up even bigger this year , especially with Alex Smith starting to figure it all out. Crabtree is probably a middle round pick, but you might see some people reach for him because of his potential. I would draft him anywhere above the middle rounds simply because Smith hasn't completely showed that he can be consistent.

TE: Vernon Davis is a guy you don't want to miss out on. He's proven he will be an elite TE in the NFL and is going to continue to get better. He had 13 TD's last year and I expect him to be right round that number again this year. He was Smith's favorite target last year, and I expect it to be that way again this year. With a lot of people going after guys like Jason Witten and Dallas Clark, look to be able to pick up Davis in the 3rd or 4th round.

Defense: It's tough to go against a defense that is lead by Patrick Willis, but I wouldn't reach for the 49ers defense. Chances are there is probably less than 15 people in your league, so there shouldn't be any need to take them with better options out there. Then again, I'm sure Mike Singletary will have me wishing I never made that comment when he gets his in top shape.

Sleeper: WR Josh Morgan is expected to start for 49ers this year, and is probably the #2 receiver behind Crabtree. The most intriguing thing about Morgan is that he will be going up against a lot of single coverage. Picking up Morgan in a later round is probably going to be beneficial for your team.

I personally think the 49ers are going to surprise some people this year. They're a solid team that is seems to always play at an intense level. Gore will put up big numbers as always, and I personally think Crabtree is going to impress in his sophomore season. Combining these 2 with Vernon Davis makes for some dangerous weapons. I would expect them to put up big numbers and get their team to around 8 or 9 wins.
