Fantasy Football (NFL) 2008: Week 7 Sleepers and Keepers Wide Receivers (WRs)

Erik M. Dell
Week 6 had some interesting moment. Andre Johnson had yet another great game while Santana Moss frustrated his owners but at least got two more catches than last week. The Jets have two outstanding WRs in Cotchery and Coles. An oldie but goodie showed why we shouldn't forget about him, Harrison hauled in two TDs.

Week 7 byes will take a hot Roddy White off the shelf and sit DeSean Jackson. Warner's targets rest for a week and all the great Jacksonville receivers sit (that would be 0 if you are counting). That being said there are some favorable matchups and some great hidden gems. Grab them for the week or maybe even the year.

Without further delay...

1) Lee Evans - Evans and his trusty sidekick Trent Edwards are back from their bye week refreshed and ready for action. Buffalo hosts the San Diego Chargers who sport a horrible pass defense. I believe Marshawn Lynch will have a good receiving game but look for Evans to get one big play and a lot of looks.

2) Kevin Walter - Andre Johnson is on fire and should attract most of the cornerback double coverage. This leaves Walter a bit more open and with Schaub throwing missles down the field I expect him to get two 20+ yard plays and a few shorter routes to have a good fantasy week with perhaps a touchdown thrown in (assuming Schaub doesn't run it in himself).

3) Javon Walker - Wow Javon Walker stinks. Big money contract in the offseason and the Raiders have nothing to show for it. Well I wouldn't get in the habit of playing him but the Jets defense is especially susceptible to the passing attack so look for Russell to throw the ball a bit more. This pick is assuming the new head coach of the Raiders has checked the stats like me. All bets are off if he decides to go all Maverick McCain (Republican nominee not the Baltimore RB)on us.

4) Wes Welker - Terrible. That's how I describe the entire New England team Sunday night. I think it was the first time in modern history (Brady years) that the Patriots looked like they didn't want to be there. That being said I expect good old Bill to commit more to Cassel and hopefully with Denver's awful defense we can see some production out of Welker. On a side note: I actually saw Welker drop a pass Sunday night...

5) Patrick Crayton - News Flash: Romo is out for a month. News Flash: Johnson's arm is weak. News Flash: Besides Barber Crayton should benefit the most from this switch. TO likes to get wide open on long plays while Crayton should be more accessible.

6) Marques Colston - I warned you at least three weeks ago to pick him up or trade for him. Drew "I throw for 300 yards every game" Brees will be getting his favorite target back. I don't care if the defense was comprised of NBA all stars, Colston will get his. I expect at least one touchdown and several good plays against a so-so Carolina team. From here on out consider Colston every week.

7) Kevin Curtis - With McNabb taking matters into his own hands expect Curtis to light it up in week 8. This is a friendly reminder to pick this guy up on the waiver wire. McNabb is looking really good and Curtis will get some excellent opportunities. Again Curtis is a week 8 start and I'm just giving you some advance warning like in the Colston instance.

8) Amani Toomer - It seems every team that faces the 49ers ends up in a shoot-out. I bet most people don't think of Eli as a shoot-out kind of guy but he is severely underappreciated. Burress is the obvious choice but in PPR leagues I think Toomer will post some nice numbers for anyone having Roddy White or DeSean Jackson.

9) TJ Houshmandzadeh - Chad Johnson is struggling but Housh is getting his balls no matter who is throwing the rock. He has great hands and often turns great plays out of short passes. Welker and Housh are cut from the same die. They are one in the same. Week 7 is do or die for a lot of teams, I say make a push and trade for TJ, you might be able to snag him for an extra RB or QB. He is an absolute must in PPR leagues.

10) Bernard Berrian - He had an awesome game Sunday in what was a pathetic matchup on both sides of the ball. Berrian is that good and you can expect more of the same this week as Minnesota faces off against a pass friendly Chicago defense. Look for a score and some decent yardage.
