The fantasy football draft is over and now it is time to begin the season. Optimism abounds in every league before the injuries begin and players disappoint their owners. Quarterback leagues require a special top-tier quarterback and the best quarterbacks in week one feature some old favorites and some surprise sits.
Best five starting quarterbacks in week one of fantasy football
1. Tom Brady: New England Patriots
Tom Brady is dying to get the 2011 season underway and answer his critics. The victims will be the Miami Dolphins secondary in this one. Brady will be in the Monday Night Football spotlight and he will shine with one of his best performances in years.
2. Kyle Orton: Denver Broncos
The Oakland Raiders defense improved but the loss of Nnamdi Asomugha will take some time for this young secondary to adjust. Orton is the real deal and early last season he went off for a ton of 300 yard games. Look for Orton to light up the Raiders secondary.
3. Matt Schaub: Houston Texans
Matt Schaub is the real deal and the Indianapolis Colts defense is getting long in the tooth. This is a revenge game from last year but Schaub will still get his yards.
4. Kevin Kolb: Arizona Cardinals
Always a crap shoot taking a new quarterback in a new system. Fantasy football owners in 12 team leagues may have Kolb as a first string QB but those with Kolb as a second string should not be afraid to gamble in week one.
5. Matt Hasselbeck: Tennessee Titans
Matt Hasselbeck is another quarterback adjusting to a new system but he has some talent at wide receiver on this team. Look for Hasselbeck to impress against a solid Jaguars defense.
Five fantasy football quarterbacks to sit in week one
1. Matt Stafford: Detroit Lions
Matt Stafford is a great quarterback to have in fantasy football this season but in this opening game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it is a good idea to sit him.
2. Peyton Manning: Indianapolis Colts
Injuries are tough for fantasy football owners and especially Peyton Manning owners. Many are wrestling with the fact they will have to place their number one QB on the IR for a couple of weeks but it is the best move.
3. Sam Bradford: St. Louis Rams
Sam Bradford will be on a top five starting QB list in fantasy football soon. This is not the week. Sit Bradford against the tough Philadelphia Eagles defense this weekend.
4. Donovan McNabb: Minnesota Vikings
The San Diego Chargers defense will be impressive this season with Bob Sanders in the middle. Adrian Peterson will have a tough day and McNabb will struggle. Don't worry Vikings fans and McNabb owners. McNabb will have his big games but not this week.
5. Tony Romo: Dallas Cowboys
Romo is a top ten fantasy football QB but this week will be tough for the returning warrior. Romo will face intense pressure all night by the relentless Philadelphia Eagles defense.
