The 2011 fantasy football season is underway and the action is fierce is always with more people playing than ever before.
Deciding who to start and sit in week one is a difficult task for NFL fantasy fans but there are some signs to watch for heading into the weekend games. It's usually better to play proven players but there are some key exceptions as well.
Here are some players to keep an eye on this week in the start 'em, sit 'em feature:
Start- Ryan Fitzpatrick- The Buffalo QB is playing Kansas City, a team that can make big plays in the secondary, but the Bills will likely be down and forced to throw on the road and here's a QB who has put up big numbers in the past in tough situations.
Jahvid Best- The Lions' running back is playing in an offense that reportedly held a lot back in the preseason yet still looked great. When he's healthy he's a great play as a receiver and runner; attrition will be the problem as the season goes on from an injury standpoint.
Darren McFadden- It's now or never and McFadden knows it. Playing on a prime time stage he will do well against Denver.
Matt Forte- Atlanta's defense is solid but Forte will likely score in the passing game this week and have a decent yard total in a high-scoring game.
Wes Welker- The Pats wide receiver should flourish underneath against Miami.
Sit 'Em- Josh Freeman- Yeah the Lions' secondary is bad but the defensive line has been gearing up for this game and they will make life tough on Freeman in week one. If you have a better option, avoid playing him as he is likely to be a backup on many teams.
Steve Smith (CAR)- Don't even play a top receiver in his first game with a rookie QB, especially one who looked poor in the preseason.
Jeremy Maclin- The Rams are a good matchup but Steve Smith (the other one) could steal catches early.
Ray Rice- The Steelers looked primed for another Super Bowl run and while Rice may have a TD, there are probably better options in your backfield in week one.
These are some start 'em and sit 'em fantasy picks for week one in what promises to be a crazy football season yet again. Good luck and keep an eye on that injury list!
